This place started as a tower, and was taken over by the great wizard Ticonderoga back in the depths of history, before the current kingdoms existed.
The place has expanded, becoming a haven for wizards to learn and escape from those that hunted them. This place has reputedly stood up to many sieges, by countries, orders such as the radiant heart, Ra, The moon, the dwarves, armies of giants, Elves, Dragons, and hoards of demons.

Each of the schools has there own complex - universities with wizards, students, tutors, librarians etc. Some open, some closed, some private.
The place has developed with followers, traders, smiths, merchants, Jewellers, stadiums, Farms and livestock, a port, ship building, temples from all parts of the world and also long forgotten races etc
They make and trade magic, precious metals, Jewells, knowledge, predictions, skills and learning. Teachers teach everything from cooking, music, languages, history to the deeper arcane mysteries
People come and go under the protection of Ticonderoga. He has a core of wizards, a guard of Rangers and dwarves, as well as having his own allies, beasts and other worldly beings and constructs.
Wizards come and go here, some going exploring, searching for magical artefacts or information. Some go puff as they try new spells, or die horribly as they summon something beyond there ability to control. Rivalries to control each school or between schools of magic can descend into animosity, trickery, thievery and even poisoning or magical tricks down to violence and destruction for those with malevolent ambition. Sorcerers and Warlocks in particular have come close to destroying the whole community. Ticonderoga never lost his grip and always restores order, and never turns anybody away with magical ability. He can be aloof though, gone for long periods of control, and only rarely does he give authority to a 2nd leaving a semblance of anarchy and chaos in the city.
The individuals here have there own motives, are generally reclusive, bookish and driven.
Taxes are collected on an ad-hoc basis as needed, and these are sometimes fair, and sometimes punitive collection from an individual or group that Ticonderoga sees as needing to understand there place here
There are rumours of fantastic magical items.
There are temples to Ra, the moon, and other gods, some ancient and mysterious and unheard of.

There are wizards here, and recently more seem to have disappeared than normal, with many new Grand Wizards in place overseeing the colleges. Maybe the old wizards have gone exploring, or found new ways to travel, its happened in the past, and well, everything keeps moving and turning - still recently it seems stranger than normal......
