Personal history
Sermides craved power since he was 10 when his father frequently left the mansion to lead armies or meet foreign nobles.
Sermides looked at his father with admiration, he saw the most powerful man in his father, a man to whom even the most fearsome warrior bent his knees.
But soon Sermides that admiration turned into envy when Sermides became a man.
An introverted daydreamer, he had difficulties in making his feeling known to his father who mostly ignored him.
He waited desperately for a divine intervention, a sign or something to put his soul at peace.
The divine intervention soon manifested itself in form of a young girl, the daughter of the High Priest of Perdias:
Mesìlla.
The two met at the royal gardens, and Sermides was immediately struck by her beauty and her peculiar empathy.
They passed time together, even in silence, with her staring at him while he struggled to keep eye contact.
He painted her and she told him how he felt with tremendous accuracy just by looking at him, he singed for her and she danced for him.
To Mesìlla he was an open book, to him she was the only one who could read it.
In 875 they started sneaking out of their mansions under the moon to meet in those gardens, and they now joined their bodies as well.
Sermide's father (Alenno) was furious when talks about this girl reached him, but Sermides was now a different man, maybe because of the confidence she had spoken into him, maybe because of love, but anyway he stood firmly on the decision to marry that girl.
Alenno was forced to accept despite his plans to marry his son to the daughter of an Odrian Marquis, in hope of gaining an ally inside Odria.
In 776, as soon as Alenno had returned from yet another campaign, the marriage was held in Perdias with a full 3 days of festivities.
At the last feast something unusual for Perdica happened, during the main course Alenno brought his hands to his throat, gasping, and after a few seconds of shock he fell on the table before anyone could help him;
his High Lordship had died, poisoned.
From the other side of the table the newly formed couple watched, Sermides acted terrified, but Mesìlla didn't even stop drinking her wine.
It was clear to most guest that the poison had been delivered by the Lord's own son or his wive, but most of them were also wise enough not to protest.
Sermides was crowned a week later by his own father in law, the high priest, and his reign would start as his father's had ended, with murder.
Soon all over the kingdom many important functionaries of the realm were poisoned or found stabbed, mainly witnesses of Alenno's death, but also the leader of the Ivory Faces, his cousin, two ambassadors and even the high priest himself, the man who had crowned him, his father in law.
Sermides and Mesìlla made it known to be ruling alone and that they did not desire any future obstacles for them.
Since 776, 12 years have passed, years in which peace was signed with the Odrians and then broke under the accusation of having had King Hadalard captured. The realm was different under Sermides, the tariffs on foreign goods were significantly lowered, the governors were forced to build hospitals in every city, penalty an accelerated retirement.
