Durin emerges from underneath Mount Gundabad in the Tul-Radun Mountains. Along with him emerge the Dwarven people, referred to as Durin’s Folk, united under his guidance.
The history of the main continent of Amospia. Many epic tales have been forged on this continent.
Events dating from the origin of the continent itself to the fall of the Narmen.
Durin emerges from underneath Mount Gundabad in the Tul-Radun Mountains. Along with him emerge the Dwarven people, referred to as Durin’s Folk, united under his guidance.
Durin discovers Kheled-zâram, a crystal clear lake atop the slopes of Caradhras. Around this lake, veins of raw Mithral are first seen. Smitten with the location, Durin founds the city of Dwarrowdelf which would quickly become the capital and most treasured city of the Dwarves.
Durin leaves his trusted friend Mótsog to rule over Gundabad. The two realms of Gundabad and Dwarrowdelf make up the first Kingdom of Khazad-Dum. Durin is crowned the first High King, and receives the title ‘Durin the Deathless’
Mótsog betrays Durin, declaring himself High King in open rebellion against his once-trusted friend. Gundabad and Dwarrowdelf engage in a bloody civil war causing the deaths of thousands of Dwarves.
Boic Bravesoul perfects the forging of raw Mithral into a metal lighter than steel, but as hard as dragon scales. The Dwarves keep the secret of Mithral hidden from all outsiders.
As many dwarven holds are abandoned, the Elves begin moving into the nearby lowlands and forests. Dwarves and Elves establish a very amicable relationship, Dwarven smiths even sharing the secret of mithral to some of them. A strong trade relationship is established.
Durin the Deathless awakens for the second time. Durin II appears as a celestial dwarf, having some powers of an angel. He leads many dwarves on a pilgrimage westward, finding the mountain Karaz Shathur and its wealth of adamantite (though is it too hard to forge at this time). The city of Karaz Ankor is founded.
Once more under High King Durin, the Second Kingdom of Khazad-Dum is established and Durin’s Folk see a rapid rise in wealth, power, knowledge, and influence.
The first organized groups of humans meet the Dwarves in what is now northern Idgypt. Relations are mixed, but start out fairly cordial to one another.
The massive increase in wealth causes the Dwarves to become ever more covetous of their riches. Most of their technology and craftsmanship is not shared with the outside world. Outsiders are barred almost all contact and a period of isolation begins.
Expansion of the Second Kingdom of Khazad-Dum reaches modern day Donovia, where several prominent holds are established.
Increasingly cautious of the human realms establishing themselves on the surface, the Dwarves become embroiled in several wars against the human kingdoms of the area including Gondor, Arnor, and early Rohan.
The Idgyptian Old Kingdom rises in dominance and the Dwarves reluctantly open up some contact. Limited trade occurs, during which a small amount of Dwarven steel and cold iron make it to Idgypt. The Dwarven Isolation Period comes to an end.
The Second Kingdom of Khazad-Dum reaches its territorial height, stretching from modern day Kharanos and Vandalusia to southern Donovia. Immense volumes of gold and crafts of the Dwarves are sought after by human kingdoms... and powerful dragons who begin forming small groups to raid the dwarven holds.
The Great Rings of Power are forged. 3 are given to the Elves, 7 to the Dwarves, and 9 to the race of Men. Sauron secretly crafts the One Ring. This marks a turning point in civilized culture, as the first time a widespread proliferation of magcal artifacts occurs. Elven and Dwarven knowledge are highly sought after by other realms.
Dragon attacks on the Dwarves steadily increase in frequency until a three-front assault is launched by a combined army of 13 dragons in total, causing the destruction of Gundabad. Here it becomes clear Sauron is behind the attacks, allying himself with the chromatic dragons of the east. The First War of the Ring begins as Elves, Dwarves, Humans, and other races ally against the greater threat of Sauron.
Sauron conquers much of eastern Khazad-Dum, but is halted at the gates of Dwarrowdelf. Morgoth informs Sauron of a Balrog who took shelter deep in the Underdark after one of the early wars against the Dwarves. Using his power of corruption, Sauron influences the Dwarves to delve deeper until they awaken the Balrog, who lays waste to the city above. At this time however, Durin IV would awaken and take up arms against the Balrog. Though the beast is defeated, on its death it curses Caradhras, the mountain under which Dwarrowdelf lay. The mountain would forever erupt in flames, casting Moria into shadow and forcing the Dwarves to abandon the city as it was destroyed by the raging fires of the volcano. After this, the name Mordor would come to refer to the area previously known as Moria, and Caradhras became colloquially known as Mount Doom.
Sauron constructs his evil fortress, Barad-Dur, amongst the ruins of Moria at the foot of Mount Doom. From here Sauron would launch attacks on the free peoples of Amospia.
The Last Alliance of Elves, Men, and Dwarves finally corner Sauron at Barad-Dur and defeat him. The One Ring falls into the hands of Isildur, King of Gondor, before becoming lost to time.
