Mental characteristics

Personal history

Maali was born in Reinkäyl, a small settlement on the northern border of Nas Iscan territories. For the first five years of her life, she lived with her mother's Tagluk tribe, migrating with them and having almost no contact with any Amnari, despite the presence of a clinic at Reinkäyl near the Almady tribe's winter camp at Beshi Almady. When she was five, her mother disappeared somewhere in the region of the clinic. Maali had been brought there earlier and put into the care of a Senior Duty Watcher working there at the time. Eventually, Maali was brought south to Nas Isca while her mother's disappearance was investigated. She was tested by the Samedim Ishcavei, and found to be capable of training to become a Servant. Maali was placed in the formal care of the Senior Master Watcher Natori, who was then transitioning to the status of Gadasim. Maali was taken to Am Rune to train, and then transferred to Amin Duum Academy in order to complete her postgraduate education. Her discipline is Warrior Health, with a specialism in the use of Kata to treat complex fracture injuries. Her postgraduate research at Amin Duum developed and then refined a more efficient use of kata to treat complex fractures to reduce the possibility of peripheral damage while speeding the healing process. She only returned to Nas Isca briefly during her postgraduate training, as she undertook her Dragonmastership from there.

Education

Maali was selected to train to become the Second Servant of the Guardian of the Dragon Realm. She followed the standard path by training at Am Rune, Amin Duum, and Nas Isca, focusing on the discipline of Warrior Health, as is required by students on that career path. When she first arrived in Central Nas Isca and then travelled to Am Rune with Natori, she had no apparent knowledge of Amnari at all, speaking only Tagluk. She was provided with additional tutoring to help her learn the languages required of an Amnari, with the help of the rest of her Cohort. During her time at Am Rune, she excelled in all her disciplines, fascinated by the way that Kata could be used as a tool for healing and recovery. During her free time, she would attempt to improve her skills as much as she could, even working with small animals she found injured in the Rune Forest. She later explained that she often brought home them and kept them until they recovered. The last of these is Bozo, a desert cat she tamed and then kept as a pet with her Cohort after finding her out in the desert during a night training exercise with a broken leg.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Maali is considered to be one of the highest achievers graduating from all three Academies (Am Rune, Amin Duum, and Nas Isca). Her postgraduate research into kata treatment efficiency led to changes in the management of complex fractures in field situations and on the Line.

Failures & Embarrassments

Maali found it very difficult to adjust to life in Amnari society after moving to Am Rune. Having grown up in the tundra to the north of Nas Isca, it took a long time to adapt to life in a tropical rainforest environment. She claims she was never able to fully get used to living in a place where it never snowed. Although she was very good at learning medical kata, she also took much longer to start using Amnari languages. She refuses to drink Unta, an Am Rune strong liquor, after falling out of a window on her graduation night.

Mental Trauma

Maali found adjusting to life in Amnar very difficult, especially because she didn't speak the language and had no knowledge of Amnari life and customs. She also struggled to understand the disappearance of her mother, although in order to cope with life in Am Rune, she refused to speak about her mother at all.
