Westenhawe

Under the careful watch of the praetorium Mustanir, Westenhawe sits uneasily at the edge of a boundless plain. The long folding hills cascade is the lush greenery that would welcome many to seek a careless and plentiful life. The fertile soil is known for thousands of miles as capable to cultivating nearly any plant whose seed would fall therein. The residents, however, toil uneasily at their mixed blessing.   Families that reached farther into the plains have been passing by with greater frequency, but fewer number. Tales of terrors take root in the lush, simple minds of the farmers that make up most of Westenhawe. Daily, the garrison from the Praetorium has reinforced Westenhawe as if they are making ready for war.   Westenhawe is composed of a few hundred souls who live within the walls while the garrison has nearly reached that number. Taking advantage of the rich soil, bounds of dirt are pull from the ground and laden on cars. It will be a five day journey for that cart to reach Mustanir, though the value of the soil reinforces what Westenhawe needs: To be valued. The residents of this small town know that protection is their only means of retaining their lands. A deep trench now lays before Westenhawe and the Grave plain.

Government

The government within Westenhawe is presided over by a Lord. Currently, the Lord Bellialg presides over Westenhawe. Having replaced the previous Lord and Lady Curral, Lord Bellialg was put in place to ensure the defense of the city. Lord Bellialg established fortications around the city, including a fortified wall facing the plains.   Under the Lord, there are various advisers that tend to various demands of the settlements few resources. These advisers come and go, often ensuring that the advisers maintain focus and conditioning. It is assumed that the defense of Westenhawe is imminent, though those words have been uttered for many turns of the hourglass.   The town guard has been replaced with militia and a military guard. As such, crime within Westenhawe is minimal. It is set in place that those who are accused of a crime will be condemned to investigate the grave plains and not return without a promising report.

Industry & Trade

The main trade of Westenhawe is the agricultural production resources. This being the soil itself. The fertile soil is sought by farmers who believe that soil from the plains will yield larger vegetables and fruits. The funds built up through this trade have supported the import of metal works that have been used to fortify the town defense.

Infrastructure

Dirt roads crosscross the hillside houses in Westenhawe. Older homes were constructed of wood brought in from the forest outside of Forner's Outpost. Newer constructions use the stone that was dug up when the grounds were tilled. While these stone homes appear sturdy, the small stone walls already show signs of wear. The lack of quality mortar used to secure the stones in place resulted weak bonds. Most of the houses of Westenhawe suffer from this condition.   Water in Westenhawe is obtained from wells. There are primarily three wells in Westenhawe that support the town, though some other wells exist. One well lies directly in the center of the city and is nearly always in use. It is a place of socialization, hawking, and where the Lords will address the town.

History

Westenhawe was originally established during a migration of peoples westward. Rumors had spread of a place where the hourglass of the human soul could be stilled. Some, tempted by the Gujan rumors, decided to head westwards. When some returned from the journey, still having not found the promised blessings, they recounted the fertile soil, plentiful hunt, and open lands. Many Lords, looking to expand their dominion and protect their territory from others that perhaps were plotting something similar, began expeditions and established encampments.   Over time, these encampments became permanent establishments. Houses were erected using the materials brought and Lords were instructed to grow the settlements. Westenhawe was one of the most bountiful of these encampments. It was attractive due to the relative proximity to Mustanir and Forner's Outpost. Water was easily accessible through numerous wells that had been dug. Frequent rainfall, uncommon for many, eased the labors of watering the plants. Westenhawe became the ideal for expansion.
