Cyfrifa (si-free-fah)

The cyfrifa are believed to have originated from peoples exiled from the Aurdian islands during an internal civil war. Maintaining a cultural connection with their ocean bound origins, the Cyfrifa caravans are often found near water sources. Due to their long separation from culture's that practice the Heirin Speech, and the intermingling of other races brought into the fold, their language more closely resembles an intermigling of common and low-common dialects. Distinctively, the Cyfrifa dress in soft clothes fashioned from aquatic creatures, rather than cloth or linen. The assumption is that this is the preferred dress due to the seafaring nature of their culture as opposed to cotton.   In total, there are rough estimates that the Cyfrifa number around 40,000 people by a recent telling of one of the chiefs of a tribe. Most of this population is assumed to be located on the shores of the Inimic Ocean and within the Rashiki's Snare. It should be noted that there is an ongoing conflict between the Cyfrifa and Sahuagin tribes that are in conflict in the region. This suggests that the Cyfrifa are not, by neccessity, a peaceful culture. In turn, they have laid claim to a territory and are actively defending it.   Perhaps by necessity, the Cyfrifa have developed an aptitude for seatravel that may exceed that of the Aurdia islands or even Aktitas. Their long, slender ships navigate the waters with ease and make proper use of sails and oars. Most of their food is aquatic by nature, with spearmen descending into the waters to harvest their food. This food may include clams, seaweed, and small fish. There are stories told among the people of large creatures that have been captured or slain. Their weapons are predominantly fashioned from bone as tradition and use metal sparringly. Rather, nets have become the most common item among the Cyfrifa. There is a game among the Cyfrifa children where each child is given a net and must net the other children. Once the child has captured another player, the child then takes their net to continue the game. One unfortunate happenstance of this behavior is that visitors to Cyfrifa territories will be promptly captured in a net and dragged to the town, often by children at play.   Worship among the Cyfrifa people is not generally practiced. As an exiled people, there is a shared belief that they were forgotten and have reciprocated this. It should be noted that there is not a exclusion of those who seek worship, nor of the travelers that arrive to their colonies. Conversations centered around the practice of faith is generally met with derision and condescension, further striking the divide between the Cyfrifa culture and groups that hold systemic, faith-based beliefs.
