Cunab Basin

The Cunab basin lies in the south of Amma-Saeth. The waters of the Cunab basin are known to carry luscious supplies of essence in their waters. Because of this, the soil is fertile and the basin is filled with life.   Settlers first came into the Cunab basin during the Horde. During that time, settlers were pushed from the regions surrounding the Espic Bay. Dozens of families were cut off from the Taladin. Lead by Elder Illiam Castell, they fled to westward. This would eventually lead the families into the Folding Ruin, the land of the hordes origin. Desperate, some familes ventured into the mountain crevices (See Emtatuk) while others the families jumped into a river. Those that jumped into the river would eventually find their escape downstream. During this time, Illiam Castell was found by Zakil and inspired him to venture South. As the families would enter into the mouth of the basin where two mountains stand as gates, the families entered into the Cunab Basin.   The extent of the basin currently falls under the protection of the Holy Order of Isfa. The eastern extent closes at Leechwood, where there are stories that should not be told. Illiam Castell would venture into these lands and return into the basin with the Seat of Order. He recounts that, "Of those places, I ventured through Forgotten Words to a place that I have Kept Forgotten."   From the mouth fo the basin to the southern coasts on the peninsula is approximately 1500 miles. The total land area of the Cunab Basin can be approximated as 840,000 sq. miles.

History

Taladin led by Illiam Castell would enter into the Cunab Basin during period of the Samagri called "the Horde". As the Taladin would follow the river to Laq-Favora, they would eventually head farther South to the peak of the Cunab Gulf. This would be the first permanent settlement within the gulf. The population would be cut off from the Taladin in the North, establishing a unique culture. The population center would become Isfa. During the early period of Isfa, incursions into the basin by the hordes of Osgolip would lead Isfa to build defenses. In time, "the horde" would end. During this reprieve, Zakil would lead Illiam Castell to the Seat of Order. This would establish the Holy Order of Isfa.   Isfa would continue to grow and expand to many settlements within the basin. Largely, these settlements were around the Cunab gulf itself. The people of Isfa are iconic throughout Uinsil for their connected to the Seat of Order. Settlements within the basin rarely strived for independence. There would be exception, such as the settlements of Mesan on the peninsula of Tetir. There would also be those that would pass Nugnur through the mountain pass north-east of Isfa.   The Cunab Basin serves as one of the great territories, drawing in explorers that would soon find the cultural acropolis that became Isfa. News of the people caused a stir as Taladin within Haralon would begin to wonder whether other civilizations were lost. The difference in culture in the basin, largely driven by the Seat of Order itself, would cause rifts between Haralon and Isfa. Zagros would eventually declare Isfa a lost people that should be "returned to the hearth of Tala." Efforts to avoid war in the basin would lead Illiam Castell, already hundreds of years old, to meet with Zagros in person. Illiam Castell would welcome Zagros and the Children of Tala into the basin as siblings. War would be avoided, not by placating Zagros, but by placating the worries of the armies. However, the threat of war would lead the Seat of Order to build Vanguards to watch over the basin.   Trade through Dabal would connect Mustanir with Isfa. This path would feed metals and exotic goods to the market of Isfa. As trade was largely dormant with Mustanir to the north, this trade route would quickly grow. The markets at Isfa would be open, bringing merchants as far as Haralon and Mashangist. While trade in the basin centered on cultural goods, Isfa would pay exorbitant sums for the dyes and spices brought from Mashangist that originated from Gamjuit. For merchants in this trade, this lucrative business would cement the trade relationship. Many trade posts along the the 1600 mile journey would be established. The journey itself would last just over 100 days and would establish the early trade houses of Mashangist.   However, trade competition would soon arise. Aktitas, Aurdia, Haralon, and Luam Cathwa would seek to enter into trade with Isfa. Using shipping routes, the trade time would be cut in half. Around this time, Isfa had become a cultural center of the world. Tourism would accelerate in Isfa and the surrounding areas. This would lead to the rapid expansion of the settlements in the basin. Wealth and security would raise the population to nearly four million, with a quarter of this population lying within Isfa and the surrounding areas. The expansion of Isfa into the "lower-levels", which are Ajarb-ket, Jadu-ket, Alish-ket, and Baju-ket. Expansions would mean that new people and cultures come to the basin.   The fragmentation of the basin saw regional groups that migrated away from the capital. While this would go against the Holy Order, Isfa took a different tactic. Isfa continued to push diplomacy, similar to how it had met with Haralon. Relations would continue between Isfa and the capital, but these distant settlements would struggle in the shadow of Isfa. The local leaders would request assistance from Isfa, but Isfa would responsd with an offer of oversight. Isfa would offer assistance as the settlement would become a protectorate and allow magistrates to oversee the help. While the settlements would remain mostly independent, Isfa would expand the principles of Order into those places.
