Cloudrippers

In the mountains beyond the bloodplains, far away from the many of the human civilizations, a people found refuge. Among the frigid peaks, these people discovered a light pillar that rises from the ground and ascends to the sky. Desperate to reach and touch these tethers of light, the people of the Cloudripper mountains journeyed higher to the peaks of the world. Still, the reach could not near the touch of the celestial strands. There was one, Aeragran, who breathed deeply. In the striking heights at the top of the world, a tranquility entered into his breast. Filled with light, he stepped toward the light. His foot, finding no purchase, failed to bring him closer. Yet, he did not fall. His will pull him towards the light of the pillar, which he grasped and ascended beyond the tops of the mountain. His eyes afire, he glanced down and beheld others that shared in his conviction. As they ascended, the clouds parted from their path. There, they convened.
Some time later, these people returned to the top of the mountain, where the bridge to the heavens was made and erected a temple to find wisdom. As they sat in contemplation, Zakil, the Heir of Knowledge, appeared to them. Together, they engaged in discourse and discovered truth of greater things. And Zakil parted the sky for them, that they might fulfill a grand purpose. And a part of the Cloudrippers ascended, while others protected the road to celestial kingdoms. That is, so that those therein may return.
While the story of the Cloudrippers remains unknown, some of those blessed by Zakil have strode upon the winds in search of answers that Zakil could not provide. The rumors of flying men, not the kin of the Shunarian, but those of Tala, have stricken the hearts of those that believe them. But the paths to the pillars of light remain hidden.
