The Frostlands

Summary

The Frostlands are not an easy place to live, but there is wealth to be accumulated here. Harsh winters and gentle summers characterize the area. The entire area is dotted with ancient sites and dangerous caves and hardy settlements that protect the edge of the Empire.

Detailed History

The imperial history begins with a discovery of a site only known as Bacca, up to this point there was no interest in the area. A warlock named Shivrock started by opening several small openings into the Shadowfell. Eventually, a city was built around the site. The city of Bacca began to thrive and then in a flash of light all 3,000 souls were snapped away. Some say they were dragged to the Shadowfell and some say they were vapourized. No one goes to Bacca anymore, only horrors would be found there.   The expansion had begun already, hunting and trapping had started and Caerodale demanded those goods. New boomtowns were set up around rivers and military groups moved in to secure valuable mineral, lumber, and trade resources. As history often tells, these things come at cost, no land is uninhabitated. This set the tone for trade as the primary reason it exists. Native elves and orcs were killed and eliminated, named the Baccashi they were blamed for the destruction of hte Bacca and that lead to the massacre of the natives as people migrated north in search of golden fur.   Brutality gave way to formality and a family rose to power. House Donadio came to power, but they were a small family and not of Frostlands. They gave twenty years of service, a daughter was born, and yet they never were able to undo the murder of the indigenous people or control the trade. Black markets rose up, unrest rose. Unrest was an issue and the patriarch, Elddrick Donadio descended into madness, a familiar family trait. The distrust rose.   It ended as these things often do. Death. A group of people lead by a rebel drow named Efti Bara stormed the keep. There is not enough detail to pain a picture of what heppened but the end result is undeniable. The entire Donadio family was killed and the keep burned to the ground. The young daughter, Lish Donadio is said to have parished in the fire but the rumor among the population is that she still lives seeking revenge nearly 20 years later.   So where does this unhappy story end? The Earl of Clarkhold is chosen from among the kin. There are mixed feelings and the army was removed land, the non-valuable land, has been returned to native hands. This would be considered an uneasy time.
