Gadbiel

Gadbiel is a Makhai colony located in Gea'qira, although, it has grown increasingly indepedent from the Makhai world of Ersetu since its founding. It's independence has wavered, due to both changes in colony leadership, aswell as lack of rule from Ersetu. Gadbiel is likely the most civilized Makhai colony, and while they've recently been more involved in Domus politics, they are still feared and hated by most.

Structure

The colony is led by a Consul, traditionally an individual meant to represent the Sovereign of Ersetu, they tend to act more autonomously. Beneath the Consul is the Gadbiel council, descendants of the first colonists, the Gadbiel clan. The council members are charged with handling various aspects of the colony; military, finances, even diplomacy and trade, with the Consul having the final say in matters. Ultimately the Makhai believe in might make right, meaning that a member of the council can challenge the Consul for their position, and while subterfuge and cunning are often used by the Makhai when dealing with outsiders, using it to gain political power within Makhai society is seen as weak and cowardly. Using subterfuge often results in the individual being immediately challenged to test their might. Due to their superiority Charun have traditionally taken the position of Consul; however, there have even been two none Makhai Consuls in the history of Gadbiel; Ahteus and (Place_holder).

Public Agenda

Their agenda has changed with both times and with new Consuls. Some Consuls wished to use Gadbiel as a hub from which to lead a conquest against the rest of Domus, others have sought to make it an independent nation. Currently, their agenda is to gain wealth through trade and to further solidify their presence on Domus, especially politically.

History

Since the end of The First War, Makhai would travel back to Domus usually using the gateway within Domus, which opens to the surface through various points, most commonly through Ecíos' Scar. They were often faced with extreme aggression if they attempted to travel in large numbers; however, when Křacos cursed the Elves, turning many of them into Orcs, the Makhai took advantage of the confusion, attacking with a great force. Among the invading Makhai were the Gadbiel Clan, who travelled south hiding among the chaos of the travelling orcs. Eventually the Makhai clan reached the south westernmost point of Ecíos a desolate mountainous land called Gea'qira. The region was uninhabited due to its treacherous landscape; however, it wasn't all too different from the Ersetu, so the clan claimed it for the Makhai, a foothold and colony on Domus.

Military

The Gadbiel military is led by a Fury; who oversees the Fiends, who in turn oversee the Aberrant. There are also the Keepers who act as guards and police.

Technological Level

Due to the volcanic and mountainous terrain, Gadbiel boasts a lot of knowledge of metallurgy and masonry, while their work appears crude, they are capable of creating impressive structures from stone and iron. Most notably, Gadbiel is surrounded by a formidable wall of iron and stone, which has been growing since it's initial construction. Gadbiel also has a formidable navy with some of the toughest ships in all of Domus; however, they aren't very fast, more akin to floating fortresses than agile warships.   As mentioned, Gadbiel has impressive defensive technology; however, they have equally impressive offensive technology. While they are capable of crafting and smithing durable and deadly weapons such as swords and bows, the power of their offensive technology is most prevalent in their siege engines. They have built trebuchets, siege towers, and even giant arbalests. The most prominent issue with Gadbiel's and Makhai technology, in general, is that it tends to be very heavy, slowing down warriors and making travel difficult, even with their larger siege engines disassembled.

Agriculture & Industry

Gadbiel's agriculture is limited seeing as they're carnivores; however, they do have two very big industries. Due to the mountainous terrain of Gea'qira it is rich in metals, precious stones and gems, and even though the volcanic activity makes it treacherous, mining is their dominant industry. Their second big industry is slavery, second to mining due to acquisition and trade being more limited.

Trade & Transport

Metals, precious stones and gems, are Gadbiel's major trade resources since they are viable in the white market, their slave trade is limited to the black and grey markets. Products are predominantly transported via sea with the exception of trade caravans for their Orc neighbours.

Education

Formal education is a part of any Makhai culture, individuals are expected to learn through observation.
