The Nine Pledges

I. I pledge to ensure that every man shall have an equal vote in affairs of moment. I shall have an equal title to the fresh provisions or strong liquors at any time seized, and shall use them at pleasure unless a scarcity makes it necessary for the common good that a retrenchment may be voted.
II. I recognize that the Captain is fit to have two full Shares; the Quartermaster is fit to have one Share and one Half; The Doctor, Mate, Gunner and Boatswain, one Share and one Quarter.
III. I pledge that I shall not desert the ship or my quarters during battle.
IV. I pledge that I shall not strike another on board the ship, but rather settle matters on shore with an honourable duel.
V. I pledge to not steal anything from the company worth more than a Piece of Nine.
VI. I pledge to keep my arms clean and fit for engagement, and to never neglect my duties.
VII. I pledge to never betray my company or give secrets to those who would wish to harm my company.
VIII. I pledge to take no person without their full and willing consent.
IX. I pledge to uphold these articles, and recognize that to break them is to risk punishment of death or marooning.
