Co-Wokers: Session 36 - The Chase Report

General Summary

After the Concert

Gerda attempts to explain the situation to Abendlied, but there is no reasoning. So, she and Xopali attempt to locate Brymroz. However, they are unsure what will happen to him if caught.   Abendlied returns to the Charming Nymph fuming mad. But, unfortunately, the cold walk back wasn't enough to chill her temper. Terra, in the next room, could hear the furious young-looking lady.

The Next Day

Upon waking up, Abendlied went downstairs to check out the Charming Nymph. She notices a gentleman looking at her as she steps down the stairs. The place being a brothel, she promptly ignores the man. Two guards wearing unusual bauta masks hide their facial features and are dawning the colors of the city guard but in fancier chainmail and embroidered leathers. The man with a thin face and a pyramid chin beard attempts to greet her. However, Abendlied continues to ignore the person. Until he calls her by 'Naia.' She turns to acknowledge him, and he hands her a sealed envelope. She gives the envelope a quick look and opens the letter. Abloom of glitter covers her hands, a ticket for last night's performance. Abendlied asks the receptionist at the desk if it is a legitimate document. The young-looking girl looks over the paper and confirms its legitimacy. Begrudgingly, she pays the penalty for lack of security at a public event. The magical glitter disappears off her clothing.   Terra hears a wrapping on her door, and Abendlied opens it wider. She says she's looking for Brymroz. Abendlied furrows eyebrows, 'Fuck that guy and fuck this city!' Then, Abendlied furiously informs Terra about the concert and how Brymroz fucked it all up. They both go on tangents about their dislike of Brymroz and Merperro.   After the long digression, Abendlied and Terra split up. Abendlied tells Terra to meet at the library in an hour or two. She is going to visit the little girl that Brymroz assaulted. Abendlied knocks on the door of the family. One of the dads opens and invites her in. Abendlied introduces herself as Naia to the little girl, and in return, she returns her name as Deelyla. She prepares the violin and then casts an illusion or two. The performance begins, and Deelyla is thrilled by the live performance. Unfortunately, the performance wasn't to her traditional standards. The wide-eyed lass with a single long brown braid and blushing cheeks eagerly wait for more music.   Finally, Abendlied inquires if she plays an instrument. Deelyla nods her head 'Yes' and goes and grabs the musical instrument. She returns with a tiny piccolo, and Abendlied gestures to the young lady to play her piccolo. Deelyla places her petite lips onto the device, and a hostile noise stabs Abendlied's eardrums. After a few bars, Abendlied stops her and then shows Deelyla the proper form. The little girl patiently listens to the bard lesson. The thin lips gently press against the mouthpiece, and a wonderful melody passes through it. Abendlied begins to accompany the song. After the performance, Deelyla gives Abendlied an enormous hug. The little girl squeezes onto the frigid Abendlied. She is unsure what to think about this affection. Once Deelyla releases the grasp, Abendlied walks towards the fathers and informs them that their child has a gift. She proceeds to give them the name of the opera singer.   Abendlied and Terra rejoin at the library.   Abendlied began researching the local deities and other nations of the realm. In contrast, Terra started to read self-help books.   A few hours go by, and the duo begins to travel outside the city. The two young ladies lament how they dislike the town. Finally, they both decide to head to the Dryad's Forest, a religious ground for the goddess Melikki. As they begin to approach the place of worship, they spot a familiar leonin. They see Brymroz attempting to hide in the tall grass, but they also spot something else. Terra sees someone watching Brymroz from a distance. The person is watching him intently. Terra points it out to Abendlied, and they begin to discuss it amongst each other. They talk back and forth, both wanting to leave the lonely Leonin to the mess he made, but Abendlied believes that he would rat out the entire team.   A hooded figure blends into the surrounding environment watching Brymroz. The leonin is oblivious to the stalker in the weeds. But, two people were aware of his position. So, they walk towards him, taking a long circular route so that Brymroz doesn't notice them. The stalker casually watches them walk to him. Terra and Abendlied make polite conversation with this mysterious man. They discuss the silhouette of the city and musical performances. He then takes his leave, but Terra spots him talking into a stone while leaving. She mentions it to Abendlied, and she assumes it may be a sending stone to the guards. They have the same discussion about leaving him alone or assisting him. They decided to help him in fear that he'd rat them out to the city. So, Abendlied launches a stone at Brymroz to get his attention.   Brymroz sheepishly walks to the young ladies. There is a bit of regret in his steps, but Abendlied doesn't care. She releases her wraith on Brymroz, not giving him a chance to respond. The leonin begins to cower but has a hint of anger in his body language. Every time he attempts to answer for his actions, she verbally assaults him. Then, Abendlied points out the man heading back to town, most likely an informant for the town's guard. He looks over to the man returning to town. They also see Xopali heading in their direction.   Xopali informs them that Gerda is still looking for Brymroz. So they all begin walking to the Dryads Forest. Brymroz tags along too, but following at a distance from the flanks. They reach the holy ground for Meilikki. The plot of land has breathtaking flora and fauna, and the winter blooms have a sweet smell and a chilling color spectrum. Each animal lives in peace with the other, but there are no clergy signs around. Abendlied calls out. Then, she hears the fluttering of wings behind her and a high pitch noise that goes with it. The party turnaround to acknowledge the voice, and they see a tiny fairy fluttering her wings in front of them. She has sparkly pink and blond hair, wearing earth-tone robes. The party begins having a casual conversation with her, and they find out that they are having issues with an unnatural beast polluting the springs. People that drink the springs have been suffering from an unusual sickness. The people getting sick are left in a semi-petrified state. Anna, the priestess of Meilikki, informs the group about a large metallic bullvine creature causing the issues. The party agrees to do the job, primarily to vent out their frustrations from current circumstances.   Meanwhile, Brymroz travels through the slightly rocky forest near the sacred grounds of Mielikki.   He finds himself a lovely hidden area to rest for the night. Then, he realized that maybe the people at the temple could help him out. So, the leonin quickly runs to the Dryads Forest to speak with the clergy there. He managed to wave down Anna, the fairy. Unfortunately, Anna recognizes him from the guard's description. Merperro does not see the leonin race very often. Brymroz pleas for help, but she asks for him to leave. Not wanting to prolong the encounter, he runs off back into the woods. Brymroz buckles in pain while running through the rocky landscape. Every fiber in his skin feels like they're on fire. He quickly drops his belongings and is barely able to stash them away before his bones crack and displace. It feels like his body is being pulled and compressed in every direction. He had never felt such pain before in his life.   Abendlied mentions in disbelief, "That fucker came into the grove at night time. What an idiot."   Anna, the protector of the grove, begins to hear unnatural sounds coming from the direction of Brymroz. The tiny fairy notifies everyone of the issue and prepares for an attack. Now, everyone at the location hears the gnawing noises and then the rustling of bushes. The creature seems to be looking for an opportunity, but Anna isn't about to give the beast that chance. Instead, she launches a radiant missile out of her tiny form. The energy ripples through the creature's hide and gives him a hot white outline. The beast screams in pain and begins to run off. Abendlied, Terra, and Xopali notice some familiar features on the beast. The thing looks like a giant rat on two legs, but the unusual aspects are the mane of a lion and tailed whip. And, it's Brymroz, but in his lycan form. Terra laughs, allowed in amusement.   Brymroz wakes up near the city walls of Merperro. He quickly runs back to the location of his belongings. Before doing anything else, he checks on his tail. Then, a loud sigh of relief, as his whip is still intact.

The Tortle Garden

Abendlied and Terra laugh amongst themselves as they bond over Brymroz's misfortune. Xopali isn't that amused by the whole situation. She knows that he is going through some tough shit. The party begins their hike to the watering hole. Anna informed them to head north and follow the stream.   It didn't take them long to find the spring that glitters like a sapphire in the sun. Small towers of polygonal stonework surround the blue hue of the pond, and close to the shores is the beast. The creature is the size of a giant bull, and the creature's hide has the sheen of polish banded mail. The monstrosity uses his horns to blow and dig up the area around the water source. It drinks from the water and burps nasty fumes into it on occasions. Fortunately, It doesn't seem that the horned monster notices the party.   Xopali and the others look over the situation. Then, nodding to herself, she suggested that maybe they could try to talk it. So, she started to walk down to the beast. Unfortunately, the monster didn't want to talk. Xopali quickly noticed the aggression and decided to match it with her own. The two of them meet in the field of battle, but the bull sprays her with a sickly green gas. Xopali feels her entire body freeze. Luckily, Terra managed to distract the beast from further assault with a series of scorching rays. And, Abendlied begins running to Xopali while casting a spell on the thing. Suddenly a series of glowing lights hover over the bull, and funny enough, and the creature starts to dance in place.   Abendlied and Terra watch Xopali turn into solid stone and see a despairing expression on the giant tortle face. Terra runs past the stone visage of Xopali and heads straight to the dancing bull. She slaps both of her hands together, then opens her hands wide, releasing a cone of burning hands onto the beast. As the creature screams in pain, Abendlied rushes to Xopali and, in a thunderous moment, disappears with the statue of her comrade. She reappears in the healing springs and hopes that the springs healing properties revive the tortle. But, the clear waters of the springs didn't do anything.   Brymroz has been following the group from a distance. He figured they were in a skirmish, but once he saw Abendlied magically appear in a pond and that Xopali was solid stone. So, he knew that he had to hurry and give them his assistance.   Terra's eyes widen as the steel bull charges towards her, but luckily she is nimble enough to move out the way. Dreadfully, she does not like how close the creature is to her and quickly moves out of the way. But, the beast rears up and slams her in the back with its massive hooves. A series of blasts scorches the desired target in response to the back attack. Finally, Abendlied attempts to damage it by insulting it. But that didn't work.   Brymroz rushes out of the forest to see a metallic animal charging to Terra. The thing rams Terra and continues to plow through her. It was stomping the young elf with its hooves. Brymroz's eyes widen to see Terra's nearly broken body. Yet, she still barely breathes. Finally, a series of magical attacks from Brymroz and Abendlied hit the brute.   Terra slowly rises to her knees, and a flurry of healing energy mends the possible breaks. She looks over to Abendlied, "I told you that I can heal." She quickly runs to a nearby rock cropping and scampers on top of the mound. Sadly, the creature gives Terra a lethal look, and a bloom of toxic gas covers her. Abendlied and Brymroz watch her inhale a large volume of fumes. Then, they see her body seizing up. Abendlied knows what this means, and she gives her some words of poetic inspiration. She then takes a strategic position to launch another barrage of magical attacks. Brymroz quickly moves next to Terra, and he lays his hands on top of her. He then cast a magic weapon nearby the monster. He gives Terra another quick look and notices that his healing magic didn't stop the petrification process.   Terra feels inspired by the whole team working together and breaks through the petrification process. Stone flakes explode off her energetic body, then she follows up that display with another series of her deadly fire. The gorgon realizes the fight is turning against him begins to run away. Abendlied realizes the beast is trying to escape and launches herself onto the great beast. As she begins to slide off of it, she jabs it with her magical blade and holds on tightly. Luckily, Abendlied didn't have to stay on the bull for the full eight seconds. A bruised and battered Terra finishes it off.
