The Spider's Silk Building / Landmark in Grenagem | World Anvil

The Spider's Silk

The Spider’s Silk is an upscale fabric shop located in the Upper Merchant Row and is responsible for the refinement and weaving of raw materials into usable and fanciful fabrics that many of the upperclasswomen use. The shop is run by a man named Mr. Ermaso Martins, a stiff and stern man who takes his job very seriously. There is no room for a man in a high position such as this to make any mistakes or be considered ineffective at his job, at risk of being removed from the position and put into a job of labor, and as such Mr. Martins runs his shop with an iron fist. The shop itself is rather large, with several rooms dedicated to each part of the jobs done. The building itself has two stories, with the lower level being more commercial and the upper being industrial. There is the primary receiving room on the lower floor, open to the public, where all fabrics made are on display. This is the best looking part of the shop. Behind that room is a storage room where excess fabrics are kept for people who need a large quantity. There is a back room that reaches out to the backstreet, which is where they receive all raw material ready to be made. On the upper levels there is a large room, full of different weaving instruments such as looms and spinning wheels and knitting machines. This is where production occurs. Though the room is always busy and very industrial, it is still much much nicer than the industrial district themselves, mostly due to the fact that they try to keep the fabrics they make clean of all refuse. There are a few side rooms meant for storage and a break-room for the workers, and there is also an office for Mr. Martins located at the front of the shop, overlooking the street from above.

Purpose / Function

this building exists purely for the creation and sale of high-quality fabrics for the upperclasswomen that live in Grenagem .

Architecture

Another building that adopted a Neo-Manueline like architecture, the building itself has large windows looking into the store from the street. The building itself is made from a light colored stone, and the overall appearance of the building is bright. The doorway is a double door, made of a deep foreign wood taken from the colonies conquered. Overall the building is very regal, mirroring the importance of the shop's existence as well as the district it is within.
