A series of temple burnings related to the sudden influx of Astorians arriving in Tahwil after the Constellation Accords.
Between 05/14 and 05/19, year 1134, five temples and other religious buildings were deliberately burned down by anarchists in Tahwil during riots that started in Fayadaan and spread throughout the kingdom.
In the decades following the Constellation Accords, Tahwil remained the only Hilaelean kingdom avidly against the peace accord with Astorians. As trade relations between the two cultures solidified in the 1120s, and Tahwil was beginning to see a huge increase in economic wealth, the Duchy gradually changed their stance on the foreigners. The city and its merchants became almost too friendly towards Astorians, and over the following decade Fayadaan, a poor district already struggling financially, flooded with travellers and foreigners.
On 05/12/1134, in the seaside markets of Fayadaan, an Astorian merchant killed a Hilaelean girl for stealing but was granted pardon for the crime. Fayadaan, for all intensive purposes, blew up. Locals were enraged and very quickly, anti-Duchy riots and temple arsons swept across Tahwil. While some nobles wanted to kill the merchant and be rid of the whole affair, the Duchess refused until the fires spread to Ghabat Al-Hami, far too near the Lunar Tower for her liking.
On 05/19, the anarchists were supposedly caught. Labelled as Adarian by the Duchy, four out of an unknown number of activists were publicly executed in front of Nur Palace. Though it was obvious to the middle class that the arsonists were not Adairian, the executions themselves were enough to silence city locals. An eviction order for Adarian communes that had settled in the forests was issued the same day. About half fled up the mountains to Riah Mauhiit, and half to the neighbouring kingdom of Kaliq-Hala.
While this execution stopped the arsons, it did nothing to quell anti-Duchy sentiments concentrated in Fayadaan and peppered throughout the rest of the kingdom. In the time after the execution, Fayadaan became increasingly hostile to foreigners. To this day, it’s a hub for crime and one of the most dangerous areas in Tahwil. The Adair still regard the event and Duchy with scorn.
