The University of Thoth
The University of Thoth is the heart of Seshat El Medin, beating life into the rest of the island. Seshat came to be a little after when the first founders of the school landed on the island as a group of educators with a dream. Therefore, the identity of Seshat is closely tied to that of the University of Thoth’s. The school currently lives on the northwestern part of the island, hugging the steep cliffs to the north and coast to the west.
It is surrounded by tall thick walls of bright white, embedded with coral, bright orange, and ocean blue mosaics depicting abstract forms flowing along them, built to represent not only the waves of the ocean, but the innovation and magic flowing through the school and everyone in it. The walls are capped by red-tiled, gable roofs slightly desaturated by the sun. There is one main gate that perforates the walls, bridging the university to the busy streets of the markets beyond. The gate is massive with two massive red doors. The doors open to the massive, red brick walkway that weaves through the school buildings and gardens. The garden’s vibrant greens, reds, fuchsias, oranges, and yellows glow in the island sun. Well manicured bushes line the main walkway which has smaller, brick and dirt pathways that break off into the gardens. Small white fountains can be heard bubbling and tropical birds can be heard calling exuberantly to their companions. Students are sometimes found sitting on benches or on the grass, enjoying time with friends for finishing a reading assignment.
The main gardens circulate around the southern part of the university and beyond they give way to the buildings of the university. The buildings mimic the stark white, orangey-pinks, and greenish-blues of the mosaics around the school’s walls. The roofs share the same red, tiled roofs and white of the walls, except with the addition of architectural and creative liberties giving each building their own character. The warmth, sun, and ocean breeze that blows through the school has allowed many of the halls to be built open-air.
The culture of the students matches their school. They are described as lively, friendly, dedicated, and bold. Every person knows someone and cheerful greetings are often heard thrown to a friend across the wide walkway of the school. The gardens, markets, and balmy weather of Seshat El Medin are beloved by students and they fully enjoy it in every way they can. Members of the university will be seen shopping and bartering in the vibrant markets, sunbathing by the ocean, and exploring what else the island has to offer. If the University of Thoth is the heart of Seshat El Medin, then the students are the blood running through its veins.
