The Lunar Tower
Central to the Hilaelian worship of the moon god Deshret, The Lunar Tower is Tahwil’s landmark of religion and celebration. Located in the central region of the Ghabat Al-Hami mountains, the tower was built on a small peninsula in the center of Lunar Lake, due to this location being the closest proximity to the moon in all of the Hilaelian dominions. The small peninsula has white sand dunes gently leading into the Lunar Lake. The tower itself is a 5 story structure, with a large, 2 story base where the grand chapel and celebration hall are ornately decorated with a wide range of Hilaelian symbols. The top three stories become more narrow, and limited access is granted to these floors. The tower is constructed from large, gray slabs of semi-iridescent stone, giving it an ethereal shine under the moonlight.
The iridescence of the stone is caused by a special, white crystal called Lundirite, said to have been from the moon itself. Lundirite can only be found at the highest peak of the Ghabat Al-Hami mountains, and is incredibly sacred and rare. The bridge leading to the base of the Lunar Tower is lined with Lundirite crystals, to illuminate the walk toward Deshret’s divine light.
Individuals who wish to convert are taken to the roof, where they are closest to the moon, and devote themselves to Deshret with the conversion ritual of Fael Al’eem. After they have produced blood from some part of the body, they are guided down the stairs and led to the back entrance of the tower, where they enter the waters of Lunar Lake to wash off the blood.
The Lunar Tower is heavily guarded at all times to protect the sacred land, tower, and shrine within. The individuals who guard the tower are generational families who have devoted their life to the protection of the Lunar Tower and the worship of Deshret.
