The Blacksmith Guilds of Ąpawičhak’ya
The districts of Niyan and Steelsworn house the blacksmith guilds of the capital city of Ąpawičhak’ya. These guilds are considered to be incredibly skilled at their craft and valued greatly by citizens, military, and leaders alike. Their talent is mainly due to Ąpawičhak’ya’s past full of battles against the Hilealian kingdom, Madhiba, and late identity of a military outpost. Unlike during the small, peaceful beginning of Ąpawičhak’ya’s existence, the weaponry and tools the blacksmith guilds provide were crucial during the active conflict between Madhiba. Now, the guilds have cooled their coals a bit for the meantime, but still create passionately for existing military bases and activities.
When entering the district a distinct smell of hot iron, steel, and coal holds in the air. The guilds are low to the ground, made of stone, dark metal and stained with smoke, contrasting the icy white of the snow that often sits on the mountains surrounding the city. Nearing a shop results in getting hit with a wave of heat dissipating the crisp, wintry cold air of the outside and being almost deafened by the sound of clanging metal that could already be heard from outside. The blacksmiths are typically burly but honest creatures and consider the guilds around them kin in a shared craft.
Walking through the hardy door of a guild intensifies the heat, smell, and sounds experienced from the cobblestone street coupled by undertones of sweat and polish for the finished items. The lighting is low except when punctured by clear, natural light from an open window, light above a workspace, or the hot, glowing forge. Blacksmiths work steadily and surely while younger apprentices scurry around doing busy work in the cramped workshop. Customers of all walks of life can be seen picking up orders and discussing with blacksmiths, however, recently more military officials have been spotted walking through guild doors, not going unnoticed by the blacksmith owners. When orders are completed they are wrapped attentively and either given directly to patrons or delivered swiftly by runners.
The guilds have grown deep roots into the capital of Ąpawičhak’ya and have done things the way they do for their whole existence, except for when Ąpawičhak’ya was warring with Madhiba, where production was sent into overdrive and a sternness fell upon the steadiness of the district. Now it holds proud and calmly as the respected blacksmith guilds of Ąpawičhak’ya.
