South Province
The South Province is a large town located in the south of Kaliq Hala. It is a Hilalian town filled with rich markets, a bustling atmosphere, and their famous flamenco dancing.
History
At the turn of the millennium of 1001, the kingdom of Kaliq Hala was conquered through it’s peninsula. Many Hilael people settled in the peninsula first. Shortly after they were accompanied by Adairians and Astorians. It became a melting pot of many cultures and lifestyles. A lot of fighting began over resources and plots of land. The peninsula was getting too crowded, so many people left and went north. In 1004 the inaugural of the Bazaar occurred. Enticing more people to leave the peninsula and find other places. In 1015, the citycenter, Seaborder, and the Riverborder were all established. What wasn’t established was the South Province. By the year of 1017, many Adairians and Astorians went north leaving the province composed of Hilael people. At this time, the town’s economy was doing badly, no money was coming in or being spent. So the townspeople banded together to create the South Province. Founding the South Province allowed this town to define borders, set up infrastructure, and collect financial aid from the Crescent Queen. Lastly, it allowed them to create a brand so they could properly export and import goods. It took a total of fifty years to get the South Province into the town they knew could be successful. In rebranding their town, they kept a lot of cultural influences from the Adairs and Astorians. The art scene is large, with a graffiti culture fueled by younger generations. To reflect the sea and river life that surround the peninsula, many pools and water irrigation systems flow all throughout the region. People work very hard here to maintain the 60/40 industry and trade rule. Markets and trading posts can be open both day and night. So at night, many people walk lit up paths to see art, the flamenco dancers, and eat good seafood.Geography/Climate
The South Province is a peninsula in the far south of Kaliq Hala. The area can be traveled to by the river on the west side, the sea on the east side, and the Kingdom of Kaliq Hala in the north. The summers are long, hot, and humid. Whereas the winters are wet and cold. The only natural disaster to ever occur directly affecting the South Province was the Earthquake of No Men. The Earthquake damaged the town and the land was split away from Tahwil, creating a river. Mountains and trees are scarce throughout the region of Kaliq Hala. However in the South Province, there are enough trees to sustain a timber industry.Demographics
Those who reside in the South Province are comprised of both middle and working class. Many poor people live here as well, they are just hard to find. Only one percent of the rich come and go visiting their vacation homes. Those who reside here have a job to do. If they can’t maintain that job, it is considered that they leave.Government
The government system coincides with the Hilael government. The crescent queen is the ruler, she handles the big picture stuff. Since she cannot govern every single town and city. Members of the lunar council and nobility class are spread out all over Hilael Kingdoms. In the South Province there is one lord and his lady. Accompanied by three scribes. The lord keeps everyone in check and makes sure all work is being completed. Where the scribes keep records and assist in civilian matters. Once a year, a member of the Lunar Council visits the Province to collect records and instate new rules and laws.Industry and Trade
The industry and trade rule of this region is 60/40. Meaning the South Province keeps sixty percent of everything they produce and the forty percent gets traded and exported. This rule is what has kept this town afloat and surviving. There are enough resources and food for people who live here and work hard. The South Province can sustain itself. The resources they produce are timber, water and food, and fabrications. Having most of the quantity of trees in Kaliq Hala, the South Province has been able to profit off of that. As well as being able to profit off the abundance of seafood that surround this peninsula. The markets where they trade these products are located all on the outskirts of this town. Making it a midway point between the sea/river and the sourcing of trees and crops. The best kept secret of this place is that the soil is extremely fertile. Trees and crops grow at a double rate than before. Further boosting the economy.Infrastructure/Defenses
The infrastructure of this town changes with the times. Becoming more advanced with newer technology. One infrastructure component that has stayed the same, is the placement of lions all throughout the South Province. The lions are a symbol of protection and hope. Many lion statues are placed together in groups, to scare off unwanted visitors. Each lion is rigged with explosives. In a last resort, people can detonate them to signal a warning and kill whoever is near. There have been a total of six hundred lions found with fifty of them only being detonated. True residents of the South Province are entrusted with the knowledge of how to detonate and disarm these lions.
