Saoirse Sligo

Saoirse Sligo was born in 1200 on the island of Seshat El Medin to Adairian parents. For her infancy ritual, she had chosen the mask, marking her patron as Murdair. When she first consumed the elixir at the age thirteen, she received a vision from the deities. Bringing this vision forward, the Cea deemed that Saoirse would become an apprentice and the next Cea of the commune. While working as an apprentice and learning alchemy, at fifteen Saoirse was drafted into the military as a spy. Being in the military was completely against Saoirse’s wishes and she longed for peace and freedom. With this growing need for independence, so did her feelings of gender identity. Saoirse felt most connected to herself when self-identifying herself as female. For fear of being outcasted and leaving her family behind, Saoirse lived by the Adairian rules for another five years.   In 1220, Saoirse couldn’t stand living in the Adair commune any longer. She proclaimed her gender as female and withdrew from the military. She left the only commune she ever knew and set foot on her own path, with a mysterious lover by her side. Saoirse wanted to create a place for others where anyone was free to do and be whoever they wanted to be. She searched the island to find the perfect spot to set up her new society. Àite An-Asgaidh became a well-established secret city commune in an underground cave in 1225. Adairians all throughout Mahka Nata that felt like outcasts, traveled to this city. The city still celebrated the traditions of Adair and had access to the elixir. When she was an apprentice, Saoirse learned the ways to make the elixir, providing her people with their most sacred item and which allowed her to keep her connection with the deities. She was the main power figure within the city and everyone answered to her. When she would leave the city, no one could capture her as she was very stealthy. This attribute came from her patron Murdair and her time spent as a spy in the commune military.   At one point, Saoirse was the chosen Cea by the mysterious artifact Longnadh. For many years she had it in her possession to help benefit her peoples’ needs. Eventually, others became greedy and tried to steal it. Saoirse saw how the artifact could corrupt a person and decided it would be best to get rid of it for her peoples’ safety. It is unknown how Saoirse managed to hide Longnadh within the ocean depths, but no one has been able to retrieve it since. Saoirse Sligo would eventually die from natural causes in 1300, but her descendants would keep Àite An-Asgaidh thriving.
