Randa

Randa refers to orchards and farms maintained by the people of Riah Mauhiit, lower in elevation than the mountain village. When Tahwil was being formed, it was obvious that the land’s shores would be used for fishing, but finding fertile soil was a challenge when the forest extended so far. It was only until people explored more of the western mountains that they realized they could grow crops in the valleys right before the slopes got steep. Realizing the source of the Moonlit River is further up in the mountains, they followed its basin to find fertile soil. This area is still known as Randa today.   As farmers gradually adjusted to their routine, a portion of them stayed and moved up the mountain to create the village now known as Riah Mauhiit. Meanwhile, the majority of the population settled east to form the main city Tahwil, leaving the farms and orchards in Randa isolated from foreigners and trade opportunities. The more commercialized and art focused Tahwil became, the less the kingdom needed to rely on locally sourced food. Their economy could support imports. It was no longer a question of survival like it was when the Hilaeleans first migrated west from Kaliq-Hala. While not all of Tahwil's food is imported, the self-sufficient nature and lifestyle of people from Riah Mauhiit is unusual for most.   In terms of crops, fruit and grains are favored due to the milder climate and abundance of water. Closest to the village are the orchards, growing citrus, apples, and tart plums. A singular vineyard grows grapes and brews a specialty wine, Ranbiri, for the main city. In the southern valleys where the river runs through, staples such as wheat and rice are grown along with olive and almond trees.
