Pollek Teel
Pollek Teel is a low class citizen of Tahwil. He resides in the district of Fayadaan, the poorest district in the kingdom. He was born into this life; his family has had a history of being on the lower end of the social hierarchy. However, he has never complained about it, unlike his family. While his parents may pray to Deshret for a fortune to lands on their doorstep, Pollek is content with what he has. He's turning twenty years old this year, but his age has never really mattered much. He's been working on a nearby farm to earn his wages, but it's not very much. His three younger sisters all work as well, and with the family's wages combined, they can just barely get by. But to Pollek, that's all he needs.
Of course, Pollek wouldn't mind if they were to suddenly shoot up in the social hierarchy. If Duchess Qasi offered them a position in Al-Hadiqa, he wouldn't hesitate to accept. But Pollek knows that that won't happen. He's accepted his situation. He tries to help his family come to terms with their life, but his parents have lived it longer than he has, and their frustrations go deeper than what Pollek is able to understand right now. His sisters are easier to deal with. Mora, the second oldest of the four, admires Pollek. She sees him as an example that she someday wants to live up to. Pollek appreciates that, but also reminds her that she is her own person, and that she should strive to be unique.
Lillian, the second youngest, takes Pollek's advice a little too seriously. She helps out at a fishing spot along the river in Taqatu, but she's been given numerous warnings to behave and stop acting out. She's been known to try and do more than what her teenage body is capable of doing, and often ends up hurt or damaging products. On a few of these occasions, Pollek has had to go and apologize on behalf of Lillian. Thankfully, the man who runs it is a very forgiving man, and understands their family's sitaution.
The youngest of the family, Juni, is just eight years old. She just recently was brought on to help on the farm that Mora works at, but since she's still so young, they have her doing easier tasks so she doesn't get herself hurt. Juni helps count the animals to make sure none are missing, and she also helps organize that crops that are harvested during the day. Juni is extremely smart, and the rest of the family holds out hope that she might be the one to bring them out of their situation. but Juni doesn't know that. Pollek has been careful to make sure she hasn't heard their parents discussing Juni's future as if they control her. Pollek doesn't want her that kind of pressure yet, especially when she's only eight years old.
Pollek himself works in Iilaa Markaz. It's a long trek from home, but he saved up enough money to buy a horse that he can ride to the district and back. Pollek is a quite skilled artisan, and he specializes in creating rugs and carpets. It takes him a long time, but they sell for a good amount of money when he completes one. Besides that, he uses his skills to knit smaller things like animals, gloves, and other easier crafts. He goes up four days of the week to open his cart, then stays home the other three to work on products to sell.
Pollek's parents are almost always gone for work. They leave early in the morning and come back at late hours of the night, leaving Pollek to care for his siblings. But Pollek doesn't mind it; it keeps him busy and he loves his sisters dearly. He does his best to give them the best life that their parents wish for them. Someday, he does truly hope that they can live a life without worry, but he knows that will take years before it's even a possibility.
