Dìon Beatha
With the heavy military service assigned to each Adairian person, the ways of protecting oneself have changed. Along with traditional armor from the blacksmiths and metal workers, each Adairian person is granted a dion beatha upon their first raid. Dion beatha is a traditional Adairian protection body chain that is an outward representation of the wearer's soul. Receiving one’s dion beatha is a lengthy process that can take over a month with the intricacies required.
The first step to receiving a dion beatha is the Adairian person finishing their schooling at age 15. It is believed that the person is not fully formed into who they are until all schooling and final rituals are finished, so until the final words of the closing ritual are said the person can not begin their dion beatha process. Once the person is finished with schooling they set up a meeting with the Cea within the next week to begin the design process and fully understand who they are. The Cea will pray over the person during the meeting, never uttering a word so that the energy will not be disrupted. In their prayers, the deities will come down and whisper the design into their ear and form the vision of their dion beatha in their mind. The Cea will follow the lines and intricacies shown to them through the deities and the energy until the design is a full representation of the soul of the wearer. After the meeting with the Cea, the design will be sent to the blacksmiths with clear instructions for the types of materials to be used and any specificities that must be involved. The physical creation of the dion beatha depends on the intricacy of the design and could take anywhere from three days to over a month.
Once the dion beatha is created, it is to be given to the Cea who will present it to the wearer on the next Troscadh associated with their deity. It is a sacred time and is presented in front of the commune after they drink their elixir. Once the wearer has their dion beatha they are allowed to participate in raids and begin their military service the following day.
