Brackfiend

A mythical creature, the Brackfiend is a large sea serpent thought to inhabit the western oceans. Capable of thriving in both the tropics and freezing arctic waters, the Brackfiend roams the oceans terrorizing sailors and devouring ships. Many shipwrecks and lost vessels in the west have been attributed to the Brackfiend. The purported size of the creature ranges from large enough to swallow a blue whale whole, able to sink a merchent vessel with its weight, approximately the length of two large serpents, to even the size of a small island.   The Brackfiend is described as having scaled skin usually green or purple in color, large fang-filled maws, a crest or frills around the head, and two to eight clawed fins. Reports on the creature's appearance vary however the above descriptors match, in part, most descriptions. Some witnesses have cited the sea serpent as being venomous, brightly colored with striped markings, capable of hissing like a snake, scarred along the snout and back as if attacked by another large creature, and–in one instance–capable of human speech. Brackfiend attacks tend to occur far from the coastline and in deep sea waters indicating the creature's great size or a reluctance to approach land. Legend has it that the Brackfiend's mortal enemy is a giant wild boar known as Mammot. The two beasts are said to have fought a great battle over control of the land and when the Brackfiend lost it slunk away into the depths of the sea.   To ward off the Brackfiend and other creatures of superstition, sailors will paint the bows of ships with pigs blood to make the ship smell like Mammot and rig the ship with metal or bone trinkets and baubles believing the rattling noise will scare away the creature.
