Ayara Iyuk
Ayara was born in Ąpawičhak’ya before the Battle of Two Rivers. She grew up while Madhiba and Ąpawičhak’ya were still trading with each other. In fact, she herself became an artisan that specialized in tapestries using Hilaelean fabrics. Her parents were both very religious people. Her father was actually a cleric, and was commonly called to help heal the injured that came to the church for aid. Ayara's mother would go with him, and the two were a well known duo in the clerical business. Her father had an affinity for healing magic, a rare gift that was highly sought after. He would use his gift in tandem with a deep understanding of medical practices. Healing magic wasn't a simple gift, so he had to know how to use it properly. He made sure Ayara knew how to treat basic wounds as well, even though she did not possess the gift of healing magic.
Her mother was also very knowledgeable when it came to medical practices. During her school years, she studied medicine and its properties extensively, so she could cover for Ayara's father when he ran into something he was unsure of. Because of their skill, they were even recognized by Commander Fir. On numerous occasions, he would make offers to Ayara's parents to join the military as battle medics, but her parents would always politely decline. They remained in good favor with the Commander; they shared meals every so often when Commander Fir had the time to. It was because of Commander Fir that Ayara picked up craftsmanship. He had gifted her parents a very nice tapestry of the Annointed Mother, and her parents had decided to let Ayara hang it in her room. Ayara would pray to that tapestry every morning and and every night.
As she grew up, Ayara began to take an interest in fabrics and how they were used to create tapestries like the one that hung in her room. She chose to not pursue a life in the clerical business with her parents' blessing, and began to learn as much as she could about fabric weaving. Her parents supported her passion, buying her custom fabrics and supporting her career as she started selling her wares in the market. Since her parents were quite popular in the kingdom, it was not hard for her business to get a good start. People wanted to see what the daughter of the Iyuk clerics could do, and they were not disappointed. Her tapestries were very high quality, often depicting portayals of the Annointed Mother or an animal that she was fond of.
Ayara had developed relations with fabric merchants throughout the kingdom. Since they were the ones who were trading with the Hilealean kingdom Madhiba, they had a large supply of fabrics. She eventually reached a point of familiarity with them that they would set aside Ayara's usual orders whenever they got a new shipment. Ayara always paid in full, and would often give them a generous tip when making her purchases. That part was probably a large factor in why the merchants were generous with Ayara.
However, her business began to see trouble when the Reclamation happened. Trade with Madhiba was outlawed, and the import of fabrics saw a dramatic decrease. Ayara's usual orders became something she would have had to smuggle, and she wasn't about to commit treason by trading with Madhiba on her own. Instead, she refocused her efforts. Her cart closed for a long period while Ayara looked for cotton traders within Ąpawičhak’ya's borders. From there, she began to make her own fabric by weaving the cotton together, creating her own uniqu fabric. Once she was proficient in the process, she opened her cart up again, now selling completely unique tapestries. Ayara's supplies are often sold out quick, as she is one of the most well known artisans in Ąpawičhak’ya.
