AIchte

The Alchte is native the shadowy forests of the northwest of Mahka Nata. It is a nocturnal creature with a haunting sound and appearance. It’s eyes appear to either glow at night or be pits of darkness, it has four legs, a short tail, and large wings that it can use to glide throughout the night. The alchte has sleek dark fur and feathers that help it blend into the darkness during the night, Alchte often have light intricate white patterns along their faces, backs, and tails that are reminiscent of the night sky. Alchte are generally peaceful creatures, not known to harm humans or larger animals. Their diet consists of smaller animals and bugs. They are seen as guardians of the forests that they reside in.

In folklore, Alchte are considered to be a death omen. Their haunting calls that echo throughout the night are thought to be the signal that death is on it’s way. There are many stories connecting Alchte to scenes of death and tragedy, just their presence being a sign that things are going to go wrong. There also exists a superstition that when you kill an Alchte, that omen or bad luck is increased exponentially. It will spread like a plague to everyone you know and love. As a result, Alchte are often left alone and treated with respect, in hopes that if you treat one with respect it will not bring death your way.
