Adair Infancy Ritual

Within Adairian culture, there is an infancy ritual known as the “Daoine Air An Taghad” which translates to “well-chosen”. This infancy ritual is deeply tied with the Adarian belief system and how their culture and society work as a culture of communes. Each item involved in this ritual represents a different deity in the Adair culture. The ritual stems from a belief that each child is born with a deity that is their patron, this deity will lead and protect the child throughout their life. In order to identify which deity is the child’s patron, the infancy ritual was held   During this infancy ritual 6 items, one for each deity, are placed in front of the child, and depending on the one that the child chooses, that is the deity who is the patron of the child. The items that are presented are a Quill for Seolta deity of cunning and tricksters, Flint for Ghri deity of the sun, light, and fire, Mortar and Pestle for Talamh deity of earth and harvest, Vial for Leigh-Lann deity of medicine and healing, a mask for Murtair deity of the night, moon, and stealth, and a war banner for Laech Cathai deity of hunger, survival, and conquest.   This ritual was a rite of passage for the child on their spiritual journey. It not only determines which diety will watch over the child, but also the child’s path and training for the future. Depending on the object that the child chooses during the ritual they may become a blacksmith, tactician, alchemist, medic, spy, or soldier.
