Veronica Gray
A member of the prestigious Gray family, a long line of naval heroes in the Interstellar Naval Starfleet of the Stellar Alliance. Veronica is the second and youngest child of James Gray III and the former Winona Stensrud. Veronica Gray was practically destined to join the Navy since she was two years old and her father went down with his ship, a hero fighting pirates in the Orestes Cluster. She spent a lot of time in her youth under the care of her grandfather, James Gray II, learning the illustrious naval history of their family, as her mother sailed the stars, climbing the ranks of the Interstellar Navy to reach her first command, of the light cruiser Sigma Orionis, by the time her daughter was 13. By the time Veronica was ready for middle school, she was determined to reach for the stars.
When the young Veronica entered high school, she made no uncertain point of the fact that she was not NAME REDACTED and her pronouns were not he/him. That point being made, she followed her brother up the ranks, and naturally applied for the Academy in her second year.
She missed the Academy in that application. A substandard score in maths had done her application in.
She doubled her dedication to making sure that everything she did was right in math and the hard sciences. Her mother and grandparents poured money into tutors and applied maths courses, making sure that she balanced the hard drilling of equations in with the theoretical knowledge of the subject she would need to succeed as a captain in the Deep Black.
Her third-year scores came in and they were fine in maths, but her physical aptitudes had slipped. A second rejection.
During her final year in high school, Veronica the Math Brain became Veronica the Athlete. Applying herself with just as much renewed vigor to the arts of physical exertion, she made her way into the fencing club, and quickly distinguished herself as an artful and efficient duelist in the art of sabre.
Her fourth year, she succeeded in her quest, at the last possible intake to begin at the Academy the semester after attaining her high school diploma. The military education of Veronica Gray was about to begin.
