The planet Alusia’s settlement was the result of an error in astrogation. Five centuries ago, the starship Andalusia, from which the planet takes its name, set out from Earth with a small crew in cryogenic sleep and a cargo of ten thousand frozen human embryos in her hold. The development of faster than light drive made the recovery of these “century ships” a priority, but the Andalusia was nowhere near her projected flight path; it was discovered only later that her flight had been incorrectly figured, and an impact with a micrometeoroid holed her (tearing away the letters and in her nameplate and thus giving her the modified appellation that gave her world its name). While the integrity of the pressure vessel was maintained, this small impact altered her course such that a century after her impact, she was hopelessly off course from her desired target planet.
It was only through a small miracle that she ended up near a habitable world at all.
The Alusians found a difficult but habitable world and began to make a planet of it.
