Mislonian
The Lightless keep a very close eye on all Mislonian ores, bars, and material in general. They would not allow any deposit of the resource to fall in the hands of another race -- even the gnomes, their partners.
With that said, during the Steam Era, a Mislonian Core could be owned by purchasing an airship and/or a floating island.
Mislonian is a highly conductive material that allows for power generation far better than most other materials. While it is usually used in a core to provide flight, it can also be used to provide energy for a number of resources such as lights, power, and other resources.
The great thing about Mislonian is the very small carbon footprint the output releases. In fact, it is is far better then steam in most cases. The reason it isn't further used though is the lack of Mislonian deposits in the world. While it is far superior to steam, it isn't quite as prevalent as other resources.
