Personal history
Formerly the Knight Commander of the Fifth Crusade against the Demonic Forces of the Worldwound in Old Golarion, The being now known as the Swarm that Walks was once a hero leading the charge against the Forces of the Abyss. The story of their corruption and fall to what they have now become has been shrouded in mystery but it is known that Iomedae herself intervened to attempt to slay the Swarm before it could truly manifest its true strength. The Goddess succeeded in destroying the original host but a fragment remained in the form of a single Vescavor, a type of carnivorous beetle native to the Abyss, and through this single fragment the Swarm rebuilt itself and consumed nearly all life in Old Sarkoris before breaching into the Abyss and forcing the Crusaders of the Fifth Crusade and the Demons of the Abyssal Realms to temporarily join together to contain the Swarm.
The Swarm was sealed within a layer of the Abyss formerly inhabited by the Demon Lord Deskari which the Swarm had Consumed alongside the Demon Lord Baphomet. The Swarm entered a Dormant state during this period within which it remained until the Ruinous God Rovagug was freed from the Dead Vault and the Swarm in turn was able to escape its prison. The Swarm did not trifle with Rovagug but spent its newfound Freedom feating upon the remanants of the Mortal Populations outside of the city of Absalom. It took special delight in feasting upon the followers of Iomedae who had ensured its imprisonment.
The Swarm did eventually grow bold and attack the Tarrasque, nearly consuming the Dread Beast in its entirety before it pursued the Goddess Urgathoa through a portal to the world known as Almura. The Swarm was then reimprisoned by the combined might of Sarenrae, Shelyn, Desna and Urgathoa and thus it has remained in the Ages since. Its Planar realm has been seperated from the rest of creation as much as is possible and ward have been placed upon it by a rare combined effort from Casmodus and Klexia. The Guardian Spirit Cian has investigated the Swarm's Realm on his own and reported that while the Majority of the Swarm is Dormant and waits for its freedom, a few pieces of the Swarm have escaped and could cause ruin upon the Planes.
Many adventurers have sought out the small hives these fragments have created and brought them to the Torch, doing whatever they can to contain or destroy the Swarm.
