El'Rin
Elf, Gunslinger
Appearance
El'Rin is a lean, wiry desert elf with sun-bronzed skin from years spent under the harsh desert sun. His mid-length blond hair, lightly bleached at the tips, falls loosely to his shoulders, with a few strands braided and adorned with small charms from his youth. His green eyes are sharp and perceptive, often reflecting a quiet intensity.
His attire is practical: a sand-colored duster, light leather armor, and a wide-brimmed hat to shield him from the sun. His boots, though well-worn, are sturdy and suited for the harsh desert landscape. El'Rin carries a short sword and an arcane pistol, the pistol is finely crafted and powered by desert magitech.
Life in Gritwater
El'Rin grew up in Gritwater, a small frontier town on the outskirts of the Nara Desert, bordering the Commonwealth and Szazapios. Once a hopeful mining settlement, Gritwater fell into decline after the Commonwealth withdrew support due to unprofitable ventures. Now, the town survives as a waypoint for travelers and adventurers braving the desert.
As a young elf, El'Rin found his calling as a hunter, working for the local butcher. It was his job to track and bring down the wild creatures of the desert—sand lizards, horned jackals, and even the occasional arcane-touched beast. His natural agility and keen senses made him an excellent tracker, and his arcane rifle ensured clean kills, preserving the meat and hides for trade. Hunting gave El'Rin a sense of purpose, and his skill quickly earned him respect in the town.
The Duel with Guz
El'Rin’s life changed when a fellow hunter, a Lizardfolk named Guz, accused him of stealing kills. The rivalry between the two had simmered for months, but Guz’s frustration finally boiled over into a public confrontation. Guz demanded satisfaction, and the matter was settled by the town’s customs: a duel.
The duel was held at dawn on the outskirts of Gritwater, with townsfolk gathering to witness the outcome. Though El'Rin sought to resolve the matter without bloodshed, Guz was unrelenting. When the time came, El'Rin’s skill proved decisive. A well-placed shot mortally wounded Guz, who died shortly after.
Though the duel was deemed lawful, Guz’s death left a shadow over El'Rin’s reputation. While some saw him as a skilled marksman defending his honor, others viewed him as a killer, especially those who had been close to Guz.
The Water Crisis and Exile
El'Rin’s final days in Gritwater were marked by tragedy. The town’s water filtration system, already in poor condition, began to fail. With Mayor Edgar Bloomings and his cabinet overwhelmed by other repairs, El'Rin volunteered to help fix the device.
Despite his good intentions, El'Rin’s lack of expertise led to a catastrophic mistake. The system broke entirely, forcing the town to rely on untreated water. Over the next months, Gritwater suffered from crop failures, widespread illness, and even deaths.
As tensions rose, the townsfolk turned their frustration and grief toward El'Rin, blaming him for their suffering. The council, led by Mayor Bloomings, issued a warrant for his arrest, charging him with negligence and endangerment. Faced with the prospect of execution by hanging, El'Rin fled Gritwater under the cover of darkness.
Life in Santares
After fleeing Gritwater, El'Rin made his way to Santares, where he hoped to find work. Short on gold and options, El'Rin found his way to The Plothole, a tavern owned by the charismatic Archimede Gallid. Archimede, gave El'Rin several jobs, which included hunting game, protection and retrieving items
Over the next month, El'Rin proved himself reliable, all the while engaging in conversations with Archimede about the arcane rifle Archimede kept mounted above the bar. These conversations piqued El'Rin’s interest, as he admired the craftsmanship and the potential of arcane-powered weapons.
One day, Archimede offered El'Rin a new opportunity—an adventuring party, one that could lead to greater challenges and rewards. El'Rin was intrigued by the proposition, sensing it could be a chance to forge a new path for himself, free from the shadow of his past.
