Player VS PC Interaction

Player vs PC Interaction

The ultimate goal of this house rule is that no player would be forced to know anything that their character would not also know. In general, Metagaming is allowed, and all player knowledge is accessible to the in-game characters.   When it comes to player interaction with PC's, players are not allowed to force others to metagame. This has broad implications. For example, if you plan to steal another PC's belongings in secret, it must be done in a way that the real life player will not know what happened until the PC would also know (text the DM or pass notes, etc.) The action must be performed in real life in such a way that the real players would be just as clueless as their PCs. Another way of looking at it is you cannot perform an action with your PC that would make all the other PLAYERS aware of something that your PCs are not aware of. Saying "I try to pickpocket your PC" is an example of an action that forces another player to metagame, and is not allowed (unless your intent is to make the PC aware and not hide it of course). The DM will empty-text the players during the game or pass meaningless notes back and forth so that any truly secret activity can be facilitated for the fun of all the players without sacrificing emersion through forced metagaming. We strive to keep the player knowledge and PC knowledge as close as possible at all times.

Examples of illegal Player vs PC interaction...
  • Player announces their PC secretly steals from another PC
  • PC attempts to lie to another PC regardign information known to all Players
  • Anythign callign for an insight check between PC's
NOTE: If YOU are suspicious, your PC is suspicious, and players can role play the interaction without any dice.
  • PC announces they sneak by the other PC's (all players know you're sneaking, so their PC's know.)
