The party travels to the passage that Rusty found in Nerezzas Lair. They find a underground sea cavern with unnatural events going on. They travel accross The Sunken Sea and find a ship wreck with a unusal crew and captain that has been trying to survive for months.
The party stands inside a huge unground cavern. It stretches miles and is dimly lit but the party can make out some things in the vast Sunken Sea. As the party stands and surveys the scene, they make out a number of buildings on islands, one looks like the top of a much larger tower just poking its head out the top of the water, shadows of people moving on a cliff, and in the distance, a shipwreck and a tower on an island. Moz touches a jellyfish and nothing really happens. She gets the feeling these jellies could be useful, but she’s not sure how. Moz talks to the jellies and they imply they could be used to breathe. Bobushio tries it out and is able to breathe just fine. Bobushio makes some surfboards from his paints and Moz changes into a giant octopus to pull the party across The Sunken Sea. Moz gets the sense of other creatures in the water that are cool with her being there. The party is perfectly able to breathe when in the water because of the jellies like a bubblehead charm. Traveling across the water Moz senses a commanding presence lurking in the water. She gets the sense it is ok with another sea creature being in the sea. When they get closer to the shipwreck, it becomes apparent that the ship is unlike anything they have seen before. It’s broken into pieces, but the design itself is alien. Figures on the boat scatter as they approach the wreckage. The boat is wooden, but has no apparent mast or sails. Something was broken off the sides, and the boat was snapped in the middle and the fore and aft decks slope downward toward the break. It looks like it has been here for a while. Moz, Bobushio, and Thuniel notice that the people onboard were trying to be inconspicuous, but aren’t good at it. There are a couple of humans, an ogre, and a white dragonborn, and they seem to be attempting to ambush or otherwise surprise us. There’s enough loose and broken timber that we could build a boat or repurpose a dinghy from the deck. Bobushio calls out to the people on the ship and tries to be friendly and he gets the impression that they are being cautious and protecting themselves. The dragonborn is watching us through a spyglass, but doesn’t really look like a sailor. As soon as Bobushio starts touching the wood, the dragonborn says, “Wait, why are you touching our stuff? Where did you guys come from?” Bobushio says, “Nepttin, where are you from?” The dragonborn says, “Somewhere you’ve never been,” and Bobushio says, “Try me.” It turns out they were flying the astral sea. This close up Bobushio recognizes that the ship is some type of airship, but it’s a less refined attempt than his. He goes full engineer, starting to fix it in his mind. Gilly asked what happened and the dragonborn says that they were teleported here and attacked and crashed. Gilly instantly knows they are lying, and asks how long they’ve been here. The dragonborn says they’ve been here for months, but Gilly can tell she is also lying about how long they’ve been here. Bobushio interjects that they have been here a lot longer than that because of the damage. The dragonborn says that the reason she’s here doesn’t matter, she crashed and can’t leave. She really doesn’t want to give up any information, it is clear. Thuniel is watching carefully and tracking the other people. Meanwhile, Bobushio tries to be stealthy while fixing stuff, but the big ogre guy walks up to him and puts a hand on Bobushio’s shoulder and says “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” Bobushio shouts, “Eyes!” and casts Hypnotic Pattern and captures everyone except for the ogre. The ogre is convinced by Bobushio’s magic that he can fix the ship. Gilly asks the ogre why they are there, and he says they are looking for a Shrine. Gilly asks if he means the shrine of The Devourer and he says no, Shurkaan. Gilly recalls that Shurkaan is a foreign name for The Devourer. They were looking for the shrine, but something crashed. They’ve been surviving off of fish and purified food. Gilly briefly says where we came from, and that we’re looking for treasure. The ogre says that the captain is looking for the shrine for hoodoo. The half-ogress name is Mirag. He asks if Gilly is hoodoo. Mirag tells a secret, he couldn’t think before this place, but now he is smarter. The more Gilly talks to him, the more she gets the impression that he’s getting things to say from somewhere else. Recalling the book, Gilly remembers that Hrothbert was able to get a sort of second consciousness that he could feel afterward. Mirag has somehow harnessed the book to do the same thing, but he doesn’t know how. Mirag says he hasn’t told his crew about it, because they aren’t nice to him. They call him Rag. A lot of the crew have died while they’ve been here, but they can’t get out because they don’t know how to fix the ship. The captain really wants to get the shrine. Bobushio is trying to figure out where this ship came from. He’s baffled about the timeframe how this ship could have been ripped off from his plans, built, and still had time to be crashed here for months when his ship was only functional a few months ago. Mirag says one day he just woke up and the hoodoo was there. They were searching, but haven’t found anything yet. They have searched their island to no avail. There’s hoodoo stopping them from reaching the tower, and boom boom. The hypnotic pattern wears off, and Bobushio has a semi-functional hoverboard to show the captain. The dragonborn is mad now and threatens us, then Gilly tries to talk her down. The captain says that Rag finally warmed up to the crew after the ship crashed, and Gilly throws in there, “While you were looking for the shrine?” and the captain agrees. Bobushio gives Mirag a ration to help him feel better, and it’s clear that Mirag still doesn’t quite trust him because of the hoodoo. But now the captain has her trident trained on us. She introduces herself as Pakili Turnonoth, and she is impressed by Bobushio’s skills to repair things. She says she won’t kill him if he fixes her boat. He says, "no, this work environment is not conducive to my work style, we can just peace out on our giant octopus." Pakili asks how we got one of those and says that a bigger giant octopus is what attacked her ship. She thought they were coming to finish off her ship because we rolled up with the monster that attacked her ship before. Pakili now is less hostile because she’s losing any edge she might have had, and she’s smart enough to know her survival rides on this. She also asks why they keep refering to Rag as Mirag..."when I asked him his name he said Me Rag?" She is here because the shrine is close, and she wants the power it can give her. Moz through Gilly asks who the people on the cliff are. Pakili explains that the fishy people on the cliff have killed her people. Gilly recognizes the description as the Sahuagin, and Pakili says that they have ransacked them and killed her people. They haven’t tried talking because Pakili’s people attacked first because they are monsters. Over the course of the conversation, it becomes clear that she attacked first, even if they are just looting, and they defend themselves. The cliffs are far enough away that it would take Moz about an hour and a half to get there. Bobushio wants to go talk to the Sahuagin. He also only wants to make a boat for us, and maybe make a standard boat for Pakili’s people. Bobushio makes a jab at Gilly for having died, Gilly gets pissed and shoots Bobushio, then Moz picks up Gilly and shakes her like a bad kitty. ISAC gets sent over to Gilly and warps her 60 feet out over the water and 60 feet up. Moz takes off after her, and brings her back. Pakili is standing there going, what the hell? Moz heals Bobushio up, and Gilly figures that he probably did the spell the way he did in order to not kill her. During a long rest, they build a boat to have it towed by the octopus to the cliff to talk to the Saguahin and Bobushio will try to make friends with them. Thuniel is also of the opinion that we should strike a deal with Pakili’s group to get the information and resources she has in exchange for a repaired boat.
