Magic has power to change the world. Hrothbert was a powerful wizard who set out to do just that.
Hrothbert was clever but would need help in his quest for change. There is only one wizard powerful enough to help him. She was smart, powerful, and more beautiful than anyone he had ever known; her name was Winifred.
Hrothbert asked Winifred to help him. They both agreed that they must use magic to change the world, but they had different ideas of how it should be changed.
Together they worked and soon they fell in love. Hand in hand they began to make discoveries. Powerful magic would bring about real progress, but they would need help from the Mages of the Tower.
The Arch Mages agreed to help Hrothbert and Winifred in their quest for knowledge. Many years passed and together the Tower, Hrothbert and Winifred made amazing discoveries as to the nature of magic and where it comes from.
During a failed experiment Winifred was instantly lost trying to save Hrothbert in an explosion that was caused by a mistaken calculation.
Hrothbert was devastated and blamed the Tower and its inferior minds. They would be separated forever.
Hrothbert begged the Wizard's Tower to help him bring her back but with no body the Tower did not have the power to bring her back. There have only been a few mages in the history of our world that could achieve such powerful magic and they have all passed. The Gods were his only option. He needed a miracle.
Hrothbert, unfamilar with the Gods, asked for their aid. There was no response to his pleas. This could not be the end, feeling helpless and dejected, Hrothbert went into a rage unlike any have ever known.
If the Gods would not help him then he would turn to powers beyond them for help. He would ask magic itself. He would defy everyone and become something more.
He let Chaos reign the Breakers of the Enslaved, Welcomed Ruin to stop the Wheel, and embraced the Void through Putrefaction. He was swallowed by the Expanse to block the path of the Phoenix. He cradled Corruption to release the Sunderer, and Wrath gave him a loom to Weave the Power of the Convergence.
Hrothbert spent years mastering these powers. He would let nothing stop him from getting his restitution.
The Tower saw Hrothbert accomplish many great things, push magic to its limits but they also saw him disregard the laws of the world. They offered him a chance to return to them and give up his quest, but he refused.
The Arch Mages of the Tower joined together in a unified force to neutralize the incredible power that Hrothbert earned. Hrothbert with all his rage tried to fight off the Arch Mage's, but it was not enough, and the Arch Mages overcame him.
The Tower destroyed the path to convergence and vowed to never let a single Wizard gain such great power again and placing Custodians to protect us. Hrothbert was stripped of his power and punished. He taught us that the power wielded came with the responsibility to protect the world.
Hrothbert changed the world, but not in the way that he thought he would.
