Taenya Elves (TANYA. Not Tahnya)

Around the world, there is not a group of more full of themselves than the Taenya Elves. Located deep within the Tana Bloodwoods, the Taenya do their best to prove to others, and each other, that they are better than anyone else. They believe they are descendants of Taenyala herself. In this fact, they are correct. And they show to prove it among everyone they come across.  The Taenya elves are not always the most pleasant being to be around.   The Taenya Elves live around a millennium assuming they are able to die of old age. Unfortunately, their habitat is not exactly the most nurturing, and they learn to be a bit more hardened at an early age. Death and dying are a part of life in the Taenya society but their birth rate is directly affected by the health of their forest, their home. In years where the forest thrives, the Taenya will flourish. In years where the Forest suffers, the elves suffer as well. As such, the Taenya will do ANYTHING to keep this secret hidden and the forest healthy and well.   While the Elves will feel superior to others, they have been known to frequent the communities of nearby civilizations. While spying could be done with the help of various woodland creatures, the subtleties of politics are beyond the comprehension of basic creatures, so the Elves will occasionally need to visit locals to obtain news. Yes, they are arrogant, but to those that show them proper respect, the Taenya can almost be friendly at times.   Taenya elves appreciate the finer things in life, whether that be food, drink, craftmanship, and the occasional luxury when they enter civilization. However, they live in an environment that will continually test them. Most realize that luxury is temporary.   Society is broken down to proficiencies. All elves are blessed with a gift from their mother goddess, and once the gift is identified, they are steered the direction where they will be the most productive in their society. This makes for some unhappy Elves at times... nobody REALLY wants to be a master berry picker, but sometimes, some people just understand ALL the intricacies of better picking: where to pick, how many to pick, which ones are ripe, how long before the rest ripen, which bushes to leave for wildlife, what the NEXT harvest will look like, and on and on. Not all jobs are glamorous, but all job from the goddess SERVE A PURPOSE. And it's this purpose that the Elves rally around. Hierarchy is based on the gift of leadership, with the oldest and wisest having the most say about the direction of the community, and others generally following.   Challenges for leadership happen 'occasionally' in the society as a new direction gains traction. New leadership has to remove the old guard, either honorably, publicly, privately, or with... underhanded means. Changing of leadership is accepted pretty quickly. Death is a common element of society, and the previous leaders should guarded better against it..
