Port Caldir
Port Caldir is a bustling city state located along the southern coast of Alkeria. It is renowned for its thriving trade, wealth, and prosperity, making it a hub for merchants and traders from all over the Human City States. The city is governed by a ruling representative, known as the "Grand Factor," who is elected from among the leaders of the various influential merchant guilds that operate within the city. While acting as the representative, his personal affects are to be secondary to the point that even his personal name is not used.
Port Caldir likes to maintain a front as a legitimate business state, conducting business with legitimate nations throughout the world, but despite that image, pirate ships can be seen parked among the docks periodically. And where there are pirates, less than legitimate trade is likely. Rumors abound about weapons, drugs, and slaves being shipped into and out of Port Caldir. There's even a rumor that the Dark Elves have a representative among the Merchant's Guilds.
Like most cities, Port Caldir is broken into districts including the Port district, the business district, the worker district, and the High District.
Despite the supposed united front, there's always political gossip about what one member of the guild has done to another, or how the various guild leaders rise and fall in power dependent as something as simple as the weather. What is NEVER in question is the Grand Factor's power over the guilds. He's been the face of the Guilds for over twenty years and has ruled with a brutal efficiency. There are at least a half dozen known attempts on his life that have ended with the quick transition of various guild leaders. Those that disagree with that Grand Factor quickly find themselves in a less than desirable situation (at best).
