Library of Icto

The Library of Icto is an important part of Alkeria lore. Everybody knows the stories of it, but nobody knows exactly how to get there, or exactly what it stores. It would be considered a myth except for the fact that enough people know someone who know someone who has reportedly at one point or another actually VISITED the Library. The biggest point of discussion is that the Champions that defeated Xandu reportedly did a majority of their research in the Library. All of this is to say that the library may or may not exist, in a location that people may or not be correct about.   What is consistent about the stories is the Library and the Librarian itself. Apparently as magic has seeped through the world, over the eons, the Library has gained a semi-sentience. It's actually able to defend itself if needed. Exactly HOW a library defends itself from attackers is up for debate, but apparently the Library can make it very easy, or nearly impossible to find what you're looking for depending on how the Library is treated. The Library also has a keeper, the Librarian. The Librarian's main job is to keep the Library happy.   As to the libraries contents, it's rumored that the Library contains copies of every written piece of information ever written. Apparently whenever something is written in Alkeria, a copy of it is created, and filed in the Library. This would mean anything from financial ledgers, to a King's personal journal. From histories of the Southlands, to the anatomy of the Barghest. This includes spells as well. Spells of immense power, those used to prolong life or destroy cities can apparently be found in the Library. Alchemic formulas that can turn people invisible or literally turn lead into gold can be found here.   All that being said, entrance to the Library apparently ALWAYS has a price. The price is different for each entrant and can change based on the knowledge being requested. Sometimes, the knowledge gained is not worth the price. The Library ALWAYS extracts its price.   The other interesting part about the Library was that, for the select few who knew about it, it was able to transport people vast distances by walking across the room.  By entering a door at the right time in one city, an individual could be transported to a distant realm by just walking across a room.  Again, there was always a price for using the library, but the price was generally lower for those using the library as a transportation hub rather than permanently taking information.     In recent history, many of the reported entrances have been the subject of various disasters.  A church that reportedly held a doorway burned down inexplicably.  A cavern holding another reported entrance caved in.  A farmhouse in the middle of nowhere became ground zero for a major battle between Orcs and Humans.  Housing a potential door to the Library had always been a matter of pride, honor, and ultimately gold.  This has quickly come to a halt as having a potential entrance looked to become more and more like a liability.  Nobody knew who was performing these attacks, or the reason that these attacks were taking place, but somebody, somewhere was looking to make sure that the Library could not be used.
