City of Ifnathr'l

Deep in the Underdark, there is a City considered neutral ground by all intelligent creatures living there.  It's recognized that even though most things in the Underdark actually want to kill each other, there is, every so often, the need to join together to cooperate, even if races don't like each other.   The city itself is gathered in a monstrous cavern, several miles in diameter.  A permanent magical light high in the cavern keeps the city in a permanent dusk.  All manner of creatures manage their way through the city; Drow and Dwaves, Orcs and Gnomes, and all manner of mysterious creatures.  No guards seem to patrol the city streets, but anyone who breaks the rules seems to mysteriously disappear never to be seen again.  Members of the Underdark do tend to be prideful and arrogant, so despite warnings, this seems to happen consistently.  The smart make sure they keep their hands to themselves.   All manner of business and trade happens in in Ifnathr'l.  Standard trade is common, food and drink, weapon and supplies.  You can also find the more unique items here; items not seen anywhere else in the world including magic items and spells.  The price is ALWAYS quite high, and most are not for sale, but offered for services rendered, or maybe rented out for a time.  One of the biggest draws to Ifnathr'l is the slave market.  In the center of the city is a coliseum,  where prime slaves are sold to the highest bidders in front of hundreds to thousands of interested or curious onlookers.  While various races will have their own slave markets, any slave of importance will be sold here for the highest price.  It's not uncommon for members of their own species to buy their own back at insane prices and many races consider it a game to see how much to force they can force their enemies to pay.   There are an unknown number of entrances into the city - as they come from just about any direction.  The further to the outskirts of the city you go, the the more shifty the the city seems to be and the more likely that someone or somethin will take advantage of the unwary.  Groundskeepers try to keep the main thoroughfares level, filling in any unseemly holes from burrowing or weighty inhabitants.   The importance of the building can be identified by the construction of the building.  Less important buildings are built out of wood, small trading posts out of stone huts, larger warehouses out of combination wood/stone construction while the most important places are built out of the cavern itself.  It is not unknown for an upstart entrepreneur to hire a wizard to siphon stone into a new cavern in some part of the city.  There seems to be no real issues with this as long as nobody is hurt in the process.  That being said, neighbors aren't always happy about the status quo changing.   Like any major city, the Underdark is broken out into districts, generally by race.  Visitors to the Underdark, as they may be, can find shelter is a handful of inns that cater to all species types.
