Astorium

Nestled on the eastern side of the Breadbasket, Astorium is a bustling city-state known for its dedication to knowledge, culture, and acceptance of all.  There are few places on the continent where diverse cultures are accepted and members of most races are able to live in a harmony.  At least that is what the Chancellor would make you believe.  It is true that the Astorium boasts the most diverse population of the southern City-States, but to say they live in harmony is a bit optimistic.  In truth, Astorium is broken into various racial districts which pretty much keeps to themselves.  Members finding themselves in the wrong district late at night, may come home a bit more battered than when they left, assuming they make it home.  That being said, as long as people keep their hands to themselves, Astorium is accepting of just about anybody.  Few questions are asked, and guards overlook anything that won't cause a riot.
Astorium does thrive on the acquisition of knowledge, hidden beneath a layer of culture seen everywhere through the state.  Statues, painting, art-work, architecture, and sculptures are found throughout the plazas and walkways, and the common observer will find the place fascinating to visit, and a great place to spend some coin as the best musicians, entertainment, and found throughout.
The real power, however, lies in the knowledge deep in the heart of the state.  Alkeria's first and the most well known mage school lies in the heart.  Libraries are scattered throughout, and visitors could spend a lifetime reading through the various tomes of knowledge there.  It's said that anything could be found in these libraries.  Not all of it was public, so sometimes that knowledge came at a price.
The current Chancellor has been in power for the last few years after the previous chancellor tried stopping a racial uproar with nothin but his fists.  It did not end well.  The previous chancellor, while pretty and polite on the outside, has been able to maintain the peace within the city since then.  Rumor has it that keeping the peace has not always been peaceful.  Her ability to maintain the peace despite the underlying tension has given her a manner of respect among most of the district leaders.
