Session 8: The Chase part 1
General Summary
Our heroes met up in The Dancing Pirate after their two days of downtime. They decided to have a drinking contest Rorick can hold his liquor but Solto cannot. They had to strap him to his horse to get to Barremay. Solto heard back from one of his criminal contacts that a caravan had been spotted a few days ago between Lostpass and Lightfalls. Our heroes decided to see if they could chase it down. Solto asked his contact to scout ahead and report on the caravan in Lightfalls. The plan is to go from Barremay though the forest to Lightfalls. Since Kaylin cannot get lost in a forest they felt this would allow them to gain time. The party collected their horses, bought a few healing potions, and headed out.
Our heroes made it to Barremay without incidence. They entered into the only tavern in town, The Ruby Arrow. No one was in the tavern and very few people were outside in the town. Solto sought out the blacksmith and learned that undead were taking corpses. Our heroes tried to convince the tavern owner to tell them what was going on but he was too nervous to say much. Zanril was able to convince the tavern owner to give him a piece of red gold.
The night was quieter than normal, in the morning they started traveling. It took them all day to get through the forest, in the evening they set up camp. Solto was not perceptive during his watch and let two dire wolves sneak up on them. Solto was surprised but managed to shout out and wake everyone except Kaylin. After a few failed shots Zanril cast thunder and really weakened the wolves. Kaylin is finally aware enough to attack, she kills one wolf and damages the second. One wolf left. Daeran tries to hit it with a frost bolt but misses. Rorick casts fire bolt and nearly kills it. Solto shoots it with his light crossbow and hits, killing it.
The rest of the night went by smoothly.
On the 11th they made it lightfalls, Solto received a report that the caravan is almost to Clearfort. They decided to push through Lightfalls and skip part of the road. On their shortcut they encountered a band of bandits but decided to gallop away from them instead of talking to or fighting them. A few miles down the road they decided to stop for the night. To prevent another surprise attack they decided to do a double watch. Zanril and Daeran frist, Kaylin and Solto second, and then Rorick alone.
During the evening, on Solto's and Kaylin's watch they notice that there is an abnormal amount of wind. Solto knows that this is unusual for the area and so he goes to investigate. He found an air elemental! Kaylin and Solto woke the rest of the party up, they were all ready to fight. Daeran used a blue mushroom to hit it with a lightening breath. Solto used his new Ring of Nature's Friends to summon a giant lizard. Each member got in some good hits and some misses. Eventually Rorick was able to finish it off with one last hit of his dagger.
