Because Aliens can shapeshift into monsters, there is an expectation that they do not do romance. This is wrong, although as expected for people so competitive and focused on hierarchy, this can take a strange turn...
Choice of partner
Their partner needn't be at the same level on the global ranking, but there is an expectation that they will still be a few levels from each other, or otherwise this will 1) severely weaken their standing and show that they cannot attract a better partner, 2) make a perfect weak target for their enemies.
Népenthès (named after a family of carnivorous plants and said to be as luring and deceiving as them).
Augustine (named after the adjective august, and said to have an impressive and dominating psy aura that imposes respect in everyone).
Désiré ("desired", and said by his supporters to embody the ideal man desired by all).

He has a tense relationships with all his rivals, but especially hates Népenthès. It's generally thought that if he were to lose he would not accept any partnership with the winner. Some people even speculate that he would prefer death than admit defeat. However, if he were to win, he's likely to accept Augustine as a consort but to want to humiliate or kill Népenthès.
Show respect for them.
Tell them you think they have "potential", i.e., that you believe that they can rise high in the global ranking.
Do activities together that can give you both points—e.g., a team obstacle course, an escape room team duelling., an art or craft project..
Offer them valuable gifts or bring them to exclusive places, both showing that you have access to restricted things thanks to your place in the global ranking—e.g., having access to new products before they official come out, rare tickets to in-demand events such as concert or duelling competition...

Romantic relationships are much less formalised in Alien society. They do not have official or religious weddings, and no tax advantage or different laws for "couples". To enter into a recognised relationship, partners just have to start living together. Short terms

There are currently 3 leaders in the competitions to become the next Alien Emperor, and there are a lot of speculations about their relationships with each other:
Népenthès and Augustine
They have an on and off relationship that has been off for a few years now that they're both vying for the top role in the empire. It's expected that they have an agreement that they won't kill each other during the competition, but that the loser will accept to submit to the winner and that they'll get into a relationship together with the loser as the minor partner.

Anything that highlights someone's high status in the global ranking. For example:
Someone wearing obvious signs of wealth and power—e.g., valuable clothes and accessories, charismatic aura, clothes in a duelling style...
Someone showing off competence and the skills that gave someone points in the ranking system, regardless of the category type these skills belong to—e.g., psy ability, agility, duelling skills, poetry, music...
Everyone else fawning over that one person, showing that they are widely admired.
