Jeisser

Jeisser is the new capital of Alghast, but it is an ancient city. The birthplace of the Ossic faith, the city predates even that by several thousand years. It was once a port city of a culture that built itself upon Alghast's Path but was already a footnote in history by the time Alghast arrived. Ruins of the the past culture exist at the center of the city, in the form of large black obelisks.

Demographics

A majority of the people live along the walls and the slums outside of them, these people are primarily refugees and the lower class, such as laborers or servants. The Middenring is mostly merchant property and large apartments controlled by powerful landlords.

Government

Jeisser is ruled by the High Ossics, the ruling priests of the Ossic Cult. Their rule is administered by minor clergy known as Actuals, and enforced by the Ossic Knight Order of the Bastion. It is a relatively authoritarian setting, with rations, curfews, aggressive surveillance, and crack downs on dissenters being the norm.

Defences

While the city has certainly grown outside its walls, it still has other formidable defenses.   The city itself has grown towards the local mountain range, leaving it safe from eastern assault.   the palisades are a rapidly constructed network of wooden walls built throughtout the outer slums. It serves the purposes of slowing down potential enemy forces, and keeping the slum residents separated.   The Order of the Bastion acts as the police force of the city. Much larger than the traditional order, the Bastion includes relatively few knights, numbering only in the hundreds. The bulk of their manpower consists of a volunteer force maintained by the Ossics, who are called the watchmen. The knights of the order traditionally fill out the leadership positions of the forces.

Assets

While it once set in the shadow of the mountains, its growth over the last thousand years has brought the city ever closer. Mines pulling up valuable minerals exist just outside the city, giving the Ossics valuable material for their armed forces. Some of these metals also make it to the merchant district, where smiths produce equipment for unaffiliated citizens.   Being the center of the Ossic faith puts Jeisser in contact with all manner of relics and artifacts that are priceless to the devout Ossic followers. This faith puts great power within the hands of those who control the artifacts.
