Celestial Cartography Guild

The Celestial Cartography Guild (CCG) is a prestigious interstellar organization dedicated to the exploration, mapping, and cataloging of the galaxy's vast expanse. Established during the early days of space exploration, the CCG has grown into an essential foundation of galactic navigation, ensuring safe travel, facilitating trade, and advancing humanity’s understanding of the cosmos.

History

Foundation

The CCG was founded in 3102 SGY, after the Republic realized that expanding into unknown regions of the galaxy posed challenges and dangers, it was decided that an independant organization was needed. This organization, called Celestial Cartography Guild, was formed and given the role as explorers and galactic mappers.

Missions and Goals

The GCC's primary goals are:
  1. Mapping the Unknown: Charting unknown star systems, nebulea and other celestial phenomena
  2. Ensuring Saftey: Map, provide and keep up to date accurate navigational data to minimize accidents
  3. Preservation of Knowledge: Archive findings, research and histories
  4. Supporting Research: Offer comprehensive star charts and geological surveys for scientific exploration

Organization

Structure

  1. Grand Surveyor General: The leader of the CCG, responsible for overall strategy and galactic coordination.
  2. Regional Surveyors: Oversee specific sectors of the galaxy and manage survey teams.
  3. Field Cartographers: Teams of navigators, pilots, and scientists conducting hands-on exploration and mapping.
  4. Data Archivists: Maintain and update the vast Galactic Stellar Database (GSD) with new discoveries and refinements.

Membership and Training

Becoming an CCG member requires rigorous training in:
  • Astrophysics and stellar phenomena
  • Hyperspace navigation and anomaly detection
  • Use of CCG-standard equipment and mapping protocols

Galactic Stellar Database (GSD)

The CCG’s Galactic Stellar Database is the most comprehensive star chart in existence. It includes:
  • Detailed star system maps
  • Planetary surveys with resource data
  • Anomalous region warnings
The GSD is accessible via the LightNet to registered ships and institutions, though access to high-security data is restricted.

Challenges and Controversies

Despite its prestige, the CCG faces several challenges during its operations.

Funding

Maintaining operations across the galaxy requires enormous resources

Corporate Exploitation

Private corporations sometimes use CCG data to exploit newly discovered planets, raising ethical concerns

Exploration Hazards

Field cartographers often face extreme risks, including encounters with hostile species, environmental dangers, and hyperspace distortions.

Notable Discoveries

The cCG has made countless significant discoveries over the centuries, including:
  • The Crystal Tide Nebula, a region of space with stunning luminescent gas formations. From the angle it was first approached gave it the appearance of a crystal formation.
  • The Silent Cluster, a system of stars devoid of detectable life or activity, leading to numerous theories. There is no evidence of any past life or current organizations occuping the region.
  • Rygeria (meaning Lost Wanderer), a rogue planet rich in rare minerals, now a major mining hub. It appears to have been flung from its parent star millions of years ago due to a passing black hole. The planet shows no signs of past intelligent life.
  • The Shadowless Rift, a hyperspace anomaly that disrupts standard navigation, still under study. The first team to discover this anomoly was unfortunatly caught unaware and was lost to its quirks.
