Unstable Shield

An Unstable Shield is a special safeguard for travel through The Instability. Travel through The Instability heavily throws off technology, so the Unstable Shield is a backup to normal shielding on the ship to prevent potential demon attacks. An Unstable Shield is rather weak, using very little energy and blocking very few attacks, but it can be the difference between life and death when making short jumps and it can easily recharge between jumps, albeit using quite a bit of fuel from an Instability Engine.
