Undead

The Undead are a sub-species of being who are afflicted with the cursed attribute of Undeath, allowing their bodies and consciousness to remain in varying forms within their body without the presence of their soul. This absence of the source of their personality causes them to slowly decay and go mad, becoming ravenous beasts driven by the instinct to survive and feed. Stronger forms of undead exist throughout the world who are capable of rational thought and even retain their original personality, but must feed on life energy to continue this state or risk falling into that same fallen form.

Basic Information

Undead can take the form of any living thing, from monsters to humanoids to even some gods.

  • Shadow: Shadows are born of creatures whose essence has faded to the point of lacking a semblance of a physical form, causing them to appear like black silhouettes. They are capable of draining strength and endurance by their mere presence, and their touch is capable of rendering the target weakened beyond measure.

Genetics and Reproduction

Undead are capable of transferring their affliction to others in different ways, many of which are listed below:
  • Ghosts can possess a person and cause them to kill themselves, turning them into another ghost.
  • Revenants are undead born of strong emotion that has tethered them to the living realm, mostly soldiers or victims of a tragedy.
  • Vampires can drink a person of all their blood and use the venom from their fangs to change a bitten victim into a vampire.

Growth Rate & Stages

Undead decay over time unless they are reinvigorated with life essence by feeding on others in different ways.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Undead need to devour life essence to survive, such as zombies eating flesh, vampires drinking blood, shadows draining strength, and so on. If they do not, they slowly lose their sentience and become instinctually driven ravenous creatures.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Most Undead are capable of sensing the soul energy and life essence of others, and may retain the senses they had in life.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Some Undead are capable of mating with living creatures, mainly vampires or death knights, and the like. The creatures born from such unions hold a sliver of undead essence in their bodies, giving birth to dhampirs, shadow-blooded sorcerers, hex-bloods, and so on.
