The Mage Lords

The Mage Lords were a historical group of powerful mages who ruled a number of kingdoms during the Mage's Tyranny during the Age of Divinity. Rising from the remnants of the Kaisilian Empire, they wielded their arcane power forcefully to rule over their lands, and enacted constraints and oppression upon those who they ruled over.

Structure

  • Theloneous Thrall: A powerful deep gnome mage who once served his Mage Lord as a steward before becoming his apprentice, learning magic and eventually killing his master to usurp his position.
  • Ozar Sacrovarius: An elven mage lord who ruled over the most powerful and largest kingdom that would be the basis for and eventually become the elvish kingdom of Nyth Noelle. He is the father of Azurin Sacrovarius.
  • Adrien Fell: A powerful tiefling war-mage known for killing other Mage Lords and conquering their lands to expand his own.
  • Ethena Songbower: An aasimar mage known for protecting the weaker races, taking them in and teaching them to magically defend themselves, and serving as a founding member of the Irons Oath. She was unfortunately killed when the Irons Oath was destroyed by Azurin and mages began to become enslaved or killed.

Culture

The Mage Lords exercised absolute control over all of their subjects through manipulation or fear, and while they used their magic for the betterment and flourishing of their kingdoms, they also used it in malevolent and nefarious ways. They believed that arcane magic was the most powerful force in the world and that those who wielded it had the right to rule over those who did not, as they could command the universe to bend to their will.

Disbandment

The Mage Lords were destroyed and abolished at the end of the War of Gods and Mages, where arcane magic users became the hunted and enslaved that they had been in the past. Most Mage Lords were killed, enslaved, or went into hiding.
