The Azure Temple

The Azure Temple is the holy site of the Goddess Ioun on the Material Realm, a plane of infinite knowledge that has many avenues of access across many lands. Ancient knowledge carved in large slabs float throughout the large open library, accompanied by other pieces of books and other written words in titanic libraries also formed out of stone. While guarded and kept by her ancient order of cataloguers and librarians known as the Curators, it is said that Ioun protects knowledge deemed too powerful for the use of mortal hands with a series of challenges, her stone slabs often floating down to form paths to these wells of understanding and the dangers formed to guard them.

Purpose / Function

The purpose of the Azure Temple is to protect and hold all knowledge, lore, secrets, and understanding that is ever written and created in the world. Protected by the Curators, they work tirelessly to record and categorize all lore in dedication to the Mistress, and ensure that such powerful knowledge never falls into the wrong hands or can be used by those intending to do harm.

Architecture

• The Shores of Knowledge: The Shores are a large expanse of dark waters from which many who enter the plane arrive through. Its stands are bright white and slowly give way to the slate warm-grey rocks that formulate the Stones and the Pillars that approach to the actual library.
• The Wayfaring Stones: The Stones are floating obelisks with ancient and near-indecipherable lore that only Ioun is said to know of, wandering at the borders of the library as a method of transportation and protection. When the Temple is under attack, the stones form into a variety of protective measures, from serving as walls to prevent the destruction of the temple's knowledge, to molding into large constructs that can smash through all manner of enemies.
• The Pillars of Lore: These massive pillars ringed with stairs and bridges carry all manner of book, scroll, parchment, and paper the records any and all knowledge written and existing within the world. Sometimes the books travel to other shelves of their own accord, and the mix of cylindrical and crescent-shaped pillars made for an interesting maze of knowledge the deeper you venture inside. Upon heading into the Wards of Deep Thought, the pillars become bridges that lead to the various locations of forbidden and dangerous knowledge.
• The Wards of Deep Thought: The Wards are special prisons formed by Ioun to hold ancient, forbidden, and dangerous knowledge. Infused in front of them are a number of trials, guardians, and other dangers that keep the lore hidden from others, and are impossible to overcome with magical means, requiring sheer will and intellect to overcome.
