Mental Trauma

Nathaniel is an orphan, bought on a vessel captained by his father Adom and helmed by his mother Larren as the first-mate. His vessel, the Iron Opal, was attacked by the legendary aberration-helmed ship known as the Bloat Shrike, led by the Illithid Captain Stahl. He dueled his father to the death and his mother fled overboard with him, but she was captured with a rip-net that pulled her along with other fleeing stragglers. Nathaniel fell to the depths and washed ashore, watching the Opal burn on the coast and vowing to kill Stahl, even if he has to climb on a mountain of corpses to do it.
