- Verness: Morde once had a love affair with a human ranger named Verness, who he originally kept as her prisoner when she and her battalion of rangers were discovered. She was run down and captured, but her rebellious spirit, view of strength, and perception of the world separate from that of her kingdom intrigued him, eventually winning him over to treat her as an equal. Eventually, they fell in love, marrying and having a child named Locke for a number of years, until Verness was captured by her own battalion who had thought her dead but realized she was still alive. When they attempted to kill her child, she went berserk and fought to steal her son back, wounding and killing some of her old partners and running until she discovered a stream flowing past the walls of the Reins. She left her boy to flow down the river and confronted the last of her old battalion, who she attempted to convince of the Orc's true tenderness and misunderstanding of cultures. Verness was met with an arrow to the heart, her legion believing her to be beyond saving through the constant suffering and agony the Orcs had put her through, brainwashing her. Her son Locke flowed down the stream into the King's Weep, where he was saved from drowning by the nearby Alexei Hughan, just as he hung up his worship and service to the Red King Below. Diving in and rescuing him, Alexei raised him as his grandson, Victor.
- Victor/Locke: Victor is Morde's long lost son, whom he had thought dead upon discovering his wife.
