Armand's Rebellion

Armand's Rebellion was a conflict that occurred between the Clans of the Rend and the Kingdoms of Urth'haile, sparked when the Rend-born but Urth'haile-raised Captain Armandius Varean, originally known as Armand Sygein, betrayed the country that raised him for the country he was born of. Masquerading as a faithful to the Urth'haile Kingdom, Armand organized a measured assault on the Urth'haile invaders with a guerilla force and the beseeched aid of both the Wildmother and the Stormlord, the war culminating at the Battle of Badon Hill. There, under the guise of the Stormlord's rain and winds, the hidden forces splintered the Urth'haile marching line into smaller pieces and dismantled them one by one, and it was here that Armand confronted and killed his adoptive father General Vareus Dumerean on the battlefield.   This conflict would give way to the large scale conflict between the whole of the Urth'haile Kingdoms and a unified Eastern Rend, known as the One-Kin War.

The Conflict

Prelude

Armand Sygein was born under Clan Sygein, a vassal clan to the passive and meditative Clan McBride of the Rend. When the Urth'haile kingdoms rose to power and emerged to take over the land, Armand's father Pallon Sygein was forced to give him and numerous other clan children up to the armies in exchange for the clan keeping both their lives and their crop tribute. This would devastate Pallon to a depression from which he would never recover, dying during the rebellion to come before the final battle took place.   Armand would be raised by Urth'haile General Vareus Dumerean as Armandius Varean, taught Urth'haile values and truly loved by his adoptive father, even though he was stern in his nationalism and the belief that Urth'haile would eventually rule all. Under his tutelage, Armand would rise to the rank of Captain, and eventually return with his father back to the lands of the Rend. Here he reconvened with two old friend, the seer Marea "Wulvengaze" McBride and the rogush Toryan of Clan Greum, vassal to Clan Kascarda.   By his unity to the two of them, Armand would keep his loyalty to the Urth'haile kingdom until his father told him that he would be inserted as the head of Clan McBride, a plan by the kingdom to insert their own as the heads of the clans. Heartbroken that he did not prove himself to his father that he was a good son beyond just an asset, Armand returned and formulated the plan to dismantle the cavalry sent to oppress Clan McBride and his own clans. It was here that his father passed, and Armand was set to marry Marea to unify the clans by both Rend and Urth'haile legitimacy.   During this time, Armand and his two friends rose to call upon two high gods of the Rend: Kord and Melora. Their calls being heard, Melora would batter the soldiers with endless famine and nature dangers, while Kord would bring his wrath during the final battle. During this time, Armand and his two friends ran into difficulties due to Marea and Toryan's romance and the incurring marriage, but Armand told them that he had no intent to stand between their happiness.

Battlefield

The Battle of Badon Hill would be the final conflict between the two, set at the titular valley at the rear of Mother's Mesa. Kord would rain down a storm that slowed down the heavily armored squadron of Urth'haile soldiers with winds, wet rain, and muddy ground that removed any hope of stability. The combined forces of Clans Sygein, Greum, Kascarda, and McBride hammered the Urth'haile flank and broke the march into several smaller skirmishes that they quickly dispatched.   General Vareus Dumerean learned of the betrayal upon seeing his son marching in a fusion of Urth'haile armor and Rend Kinfolds, a fashion that would continue to prevail throughout the Rend for ages to come. The two battled in an emotional bout of single combat, with Armand emerging victorious. This broke the last of the morale of the Urth'haile invasion, forcing them to retreat back west to regroup, and paving the way for start of the One-Kin War.
